In case anyone doesn't want to wade through several topics and posts to find a fix to the specializations bug, at least until there's an update, I figured I would just sum everything up in one spot, forgive me if it has already been done.

In case you pay as much as attention as I do, NeoCloud61.
And for those who do not know already: How to clear the Xbox 360 console cache
I hope this manages to help someone, and if neither of those work you could always make a guy and quickly rush to buy the ranger specialization book.

You can re-unlock specializations using a different character, an earlier one with the books still there, then reloading the one you want to play, I believe. Also, do those of us with RTO need to delete it, and will any characters with stuff from RTO be screwed up by deleting it, does anyone know?

So if you clear your cache will you get the specializations back or do you just re unlock them and they stay unlocked? Will it try to make you download the bugged patch again?

According to what Bioware stated in the main forum, RtO is fine. The update caused the issues and has been removed from the Xbox servers. They were not expecting RtO to be released when it was and have pulled it to complete bug testing on it and the other versions to make sure that it works correctly. It was released in the Xbox marketplace by mistake on the 13th. Clearing the update from cache should fix most of the problems.

Bioware removed the problematic title update from Xbox live. I am quoting below from what Chris Priestly posted in the general forum earlier today:
"The Title Update has been removed by Microsoft. If anyone was worried about playing their copy of Dragon Age: Origins on their Xbox 360 whle this was present, you no longer need to worry.
We are still working on a fix the the issue introduced to those who did install the Title Update.
We are checking all versions of Return to Ostagar to ensure that there are no outstanding issues or the possibility of introducing new ones. Currently, we do not have an eta for the release of Return ot Ostagar on any platform.
When I have more details or information, I will let you know."

I see, so when they release an updated RTO I will have to delete my version and download that. Ah well, at least it is less buggy than the Pitt.

Does anyone know what kind of effect this has had on the other achievements. Specifically the cross playthrough ones? I should have just unlocked hopeless romantic but I got the one for Morrigan but no other achievements.
Also the ranger books. I didn't have a previous save that had any for sale. I cleared the cache and all and started a new character and still no ranger book. I tried reloading one of my old saves with everything unlocked and it didn't matter. I was able to get Morrigan to teach me shapeshifter again but it is going to be a long time to see if that has any effect.

Unfortunately for me, I am halfway through what I call my final playthrough and I do not want to start a new game to try and unlock these... I'm glad that works for some but I should not have to do that.

No, no one should have to do this. It isn't just you. And the best part is there is nothing we can do about it. No refund. No customer service. Just supposed to look at he shiny disc for another three months and they get get a better patch out there. Maybe the next one will just asplode your 360 and save you the frustration of this crap.

I had all my characters planned out for my second run when RTO hit. Now I got RTO and no specs.

It's not RTO that killed your spec unlocks, it was the update that came out before it.

i think most of us would rather blame RTO since they took it off the marketplace as soon as they noticed this happenning

This is ridiculous how non-responsive Bioware/EA has been. I have beaten the game twice and unlocked ALL specializations and now I have none. They are still friggin advertising RTO on the main site. I was expecting to see a notice but instead "Download Today". Sort it out Bioware. This is bad business.

Feel lucky guys, atleast you didn't delete all your characters like I did to try and resolve this.
I had reached my character cap and decided to delete a few test characters, one of which was the first character I had ever created.
After doing the deletions I started a new game and reached level 7, I had it all planned out as to skills, specs and so on. No when I hit level 7 I had no specs, so I checked other character, same thing, my specs were no longer unlocked, and I had them all unlocked.
So I figured I had some how caused this whule deleting characters, so man oh man I was pissed. I tried loading prior save games to re-unlock the specs, but merchants didn't have the books anymore, and I was not going to go through all the spec quests over again.
So ... I deleted all my characters (that was painful) and cleared my cache to make sure all DAO info was off my console and then started a new charater, proceeding to unlock all specs again and so on.
Imagine my surprise when I hit the forums today and see that it was a Bioware issue, and no fault of mine .... yay! over 250hrs+ of game play down the drain.
So see ... it's not as bad as it seems when you take my predicament into consideration ..... lol
