I do think that If all the die-hard speedrunners started to focus on "vanilla" speedruns on whatevermap and without missiles, just trying to get things done ASAP. The emphasize on their actual gaming skill would be much greater and speedrunning much more interesting for a broader audience than it currently is.
If you have two teams with the exact same loadout, strategy and
objectives, but unequal skill, I think it's pretty clear who gets the
better time.
There are so many little mistakes you can make
during a speedrun, like shooting a rocket half a second too early,
getting to your position one second too late or choosing the wrong way
for the pizza. If a Phantom escapes and gets to your position, you have
to kill it quickly without leaving the spawn you're currently blocking.
All those little things will completely mess up your final time if
you're going for a record.
Speed runs require nothing but fore-knowledge. Anyone that knows the
strategy and follows the rules can do it. "Skill" never really even
comes into play.
That's right, maybe the thread should have been named "Does competitive speedrunning/attempting to establish a speedrunning record takes skill"
I believe the answers, at least mines, would have been completely different.
