A solo isn't all that hard either TBH, all it takes is patience to kite enemies. Formulating and improving strategies for speedruns take skill and a team only goes as far as its weakest link. If you have someone with a small amount of missiles, low level weapons, etc. they aren't going to be able to be much help in a speedrun. That same player could go into Platinum and solo it assuming they know the spawns and have the patience to kite.

I don't think Armored Compartments speedruns take a ton of skill (until you are going for record times), but no missile speedruns or even non Armored Compartments speedruns do (since you have to adjust on the fly and can't rely on missiles as much).

Try kiting on glacier on plat solo. You'll see how much skills you really have

You're assuming the easiest speedrunning map is also the easiest soloing map?? or maybe you are just trying to be difficult. A fair comparison would be trying to solo Vancouver, Giant, or Ghost.

No, speedrunning isn't as hard as soloing. We know that was the point of this thread. The 'difficulty' in speedrunning is all self-imposed because you are simply allowing yourself to make less mistakes. Your margin for error is a lot less when you are trying to beat a time over and over again and that is where the difficulty lies, not messing up.. at all.

To achieve the best of times possible you have to be pretty good with a variety of skills, I like to think. But, If a player's goal is to 'speedrun' and get 10-12 minute times, they will find it incredibly easy after learning the strategy and playing with 3 other knowing players.

All I know is if noobs can do it, they should do it. Biggest noob problems is a lack of mods/gear/consumables. Those first, weapons later.

There are different levels of execution. You 2 and many others have oversimplified the matter. Trust me there is a level of skill involved even in a armored compartment run. It's very apparent when I run with trainees, experienced/skillful players vs my preferred crew. Not all speedruns are created equal. Most dissenters are lumping all speedruns together there is a vast difference between a >15min run and the current best times. Thats like comparing a 60min solo with whatever ia the current "legit" fastest solo. Contrary to popular opinion 4 "noobs" with 15 rockets each couldn't complete a speedrun even after watching a guide.

Agreed.  Also, I think you can measure the level of skill in a speedrun group especially when things go wrong.  How does everyone adapt?  How quickly do you get back on track?  What decisions did each person make to rectify the situation?

It was actually the mishaps that clearly defined the level of skill each person on a team had for me.  Akin to professional sports, anything that is done well with consistency is made to look easier than it actually is (this includes soloing).

To do a speedrun doesn't take a whole lot of skill. To get a sub 9 time does. It takes game awareness, good knowledge of spawns and the maps to get good times. Another thing to remember is that those "Oh S*** " moments sometimes don't allow you to use a missile and on objective waves you may not have those missiles you need to clear your way. Ultimately the goal is credits cause we don't have all the URs. I get the challenge of soloing and some other challenges like the 300 confirmed kills one but for those who want those URs this is the fastest legit way to get them. For the soloers that think getting sub 8 or 9 is no big deal find out how to speedrun and try it.

btw, anyone who doesn't think speed running doesn't take any skill or know-how at all has clearly never tried to teach a total noob to do it.

Pyroninja I'm not talking about you ;)  lol but seriously I'm really not

No it doesn't, it's easy, and anyone can do it.

Is that why solo threads are spammed more than speed run threads???

solo threads are spammed more because anyone can solo, silver solo, gold solo, platinum solo. its all personal.

speedruns, if it isnt a record why bother posting.

Can a noob solo platinum??

Have you not heard of the missile glitch?

Clearly you need some skill.  You need to know the maps and spawn points, and you need to be good enough to clean stuff up quickly after the Rockets are out.

This. If it took no skill at all, we wouldn't be seeing both noobs and experinced players hosting rio lobbies.

I say it does.

You need
- knowledge of the map and spawns
- how to use soft cover
- know when to push or when to hang back
- be able to communicate with a team

you dont need to know any of those things one person can coordinate an entire group of peons to extraction all you need is listening skills and application skills
