I have the three Balder's gate games: Balder's Gate, Shadows of Amn, and Throne of Baal, plus Tales of the Sword Coast. They are all in the original big boxes, and have multiple disks. The games are all installed on my pc from a long time ago.
My question is, why do I still have to use the disks to play after all this time, Black Isle isn't even in business, and some of my disks won't play any more. Is there any way to remove the necessity of using disks to play these games? I hope there is, or I won't be able to play them any more. I'd appreciate it if you have a solution for this. Thanks
Why do I still have to play with disks?

A full install should only require one disc to run. For BG1 that would be either disk 1 (I think) or if you have tales of the Sword Coast installed that disk instead. For SoA and ToB you should only require the ToB disk. If you didn't do a full install the game will require more disks.
The only legitimate way to run disk-less is to repurchase the GOG release of the games, or for BG1 to purchase the enhanced edition.

Thanks, Gate70. I didn't think anyone would answer this question. I didn't realize GOG had the games. I'll check it out.

If you waited long enough, all the D&D games just went on sale for up to 80% off on GoG today. Incredible deals for those that don't have the DRM-free versions yet (I was only missing NWN2:Complete).

I just picked up BG1 & 2 for $5.50 each at gog - bargain. My 4-in-1 set will soon be stored with the 5+1 and 4+1 originals.

Got them! Now all I need to do is figure out why my Mass Effect 2 disk doesn't work. It doesn't even recognize my dvd player. I'm just about ready to admit that my pc needs an overhaul... Or maybe I do!
