I'd prefer a mix da: o and da 2 leaning toward da 2 as far as speed goes da: o was at times painfully slow... and I mostly play turn based games..
please no ff 13 I really dislike the combat in that game, it's very pretty but I don't play turn based games to be rushed.
yes I am aware of the mild irony.
If you could take the combat system of any other game and integrate it into DA:I...

Hammer & Sickle.
Real turn as opposed to RTwP. Can be brutally difficult but rarely overwhelming. The amount of things you're carrying affect how much you can move in one turn. Endless strategies and tactics based on where you position your units before either the enemy walks into your ambush, or you pre-emptively attack them.

I always find myself really wishing for a Dragon's Dogma-esque system when fighting the Archdemon now...

I think for DA:I perhaps some qualities from Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood mixed in to turn-based combat could give the player a more hands on feel.

Devil May Cry, the new one or Ninja Gaiden 2.
If you think that's senseless button mashing, go ahead and try and make it through even on easy with that strategy.
But honestly, DAIII should feature elements from the first 2. Spell combos from origins and the pacing/slick combat style of II. Which it probably will

Strange choice but I would go for something like The Warriors game that was released, had very good fighting mechanics and most importantly lots of grapples, something that I think is missing from DA
Would be nice to grapple a guy to the floor and stab him, or kick him through tables or out windows xD.
I think DA really needs some more enviromental combat options rather than just slashing things to death

Going to a twitch based combat system would ruin Dragon Age for me.

Dark souls, i like a good challenge :-), also the multiplayer is very original and none of that AC one button killing spree.
you have to be smart or die trying

Kingdom Hearts. Maybe with the ability to switch characters (kind of like Final Fantasy versus XIII should be in fact).
I'm serious, I love that gameplay.

I'd usually agree but we haven't actually seen any Project Eternity combat.
True. But they have said its going to be almost identical to the combat in the infinity engine games.
Sawyer has also mentioned cooldowns for some spells (typically lower level spells), as well as some other potential differences (spells being contained in spell books, which must be equipped and the like).
I actually disagree that they have said it's going to be "almost identical" to the Infinity Engine games. Obsidian has IE as a baseline, but they're still looking at ways to vary up the system. Fortunately, Sawyer is a mechanics and rules guru.
This is the only thing I've seemed to find on it, at least when it comes to melee:
