There is a lot of complaining on these boards... Has anyone had a good experience when you left your "comfort zone" play style to go along with your PUG team?

I was playing a PUG game Gold Geth with only 3 players (no mics).
I noticed that the Cabal player was rushing the Geth Primes and punching them out to kill them. Just to be a smart-ass, I started joining in. But, it turned out to be awesome! Watching the two of us were beating the crap out of the primes was hilarious. By the end of the game all 3 players would surround the Primes and beat them down Image IPB.

I rarely use melee, but it was fun to try something different.

I generally try not to do what my pug team do. Mainly because I get pugs with either full infiltrators, juggernauts, or essentially classes that don't rely on any team synergizing. When I do get into that lobby with a bunch of krogans, however....
MELEE ALL TEH THINGS.

I made a vow to never look at the score board again recently and this game has never been more fun :3  Just the other day, I had a mission with Two turians and two Asari ( Turian Ghost Infiltrator, Cabal Vanguard, Asari Adept, Asari Justicar ) on Firebase Giant Hazard. I was a Cabal and as our other two team mates fell, me and the Justicar I met had so much fun with Reave & Poison Strike and Biotic Bubble & Poison Stike. It felt like so much fun, actually . . . I think I'm going to go play now :3
OHH! This wasn't with a Pug but another time recently me and my two friends along with another team mate chose all different kinds of Volus and just travelled around the map Shield boosting eachother on Gold. We didnt EVEN NEED Cover hahaha Nothing can defeat a wall of Volus :P

My overall experience with pugs would be rated good to very good, yes I have had bad ones, tough ones however if the system let's me take a look in a lobby rather than throwing me into a game, I can run a kit/weapon to take up the slack, some pugs have suprised me. I have taken dozens from silver into gold and gold into platinum, it's rare that we fail, simply because we do communicate, they ask questions going in and if I can I will answer.

It's just my opinion/observation many of the pug complaints here on the forum, the poster needs to take a look in the mirror, it's one thing to do great playing with friends, pugs add a whole new challenge to the game and I wonder if some of these posters are up for it.

I play pretty much all PUGs. Many suck, some are badass, but each time it does provide a whole different kind of game.

My other thread was one of the few bad PuG experiences I have ever had. So I gotta say that my overall experiences have been good. This is why I was so taken aback by their ineptitude.

I get injected into a lot of matches that just started, but whenever I do start a game and enter a lobby, I always look at my opponents' kits. Are they using shakey powers? Then I won't snipe. Is there a melee guy like a Krogan? I'll play a crowd control kit. Lots of tech? I'll either use a kit that primes, detonates, or both depending. I'll even run a Tech Vulnerability Sabotage kit. If there are two Biotics, I'll also use a biotic.

But sometimes, you just get guys who simply suck, and/or are doing it wrong.

Braking out of confort zone? Pizza dellivery on Rio/plat starts and you all gather around but no one is touching it like it's a skunk, so you realize you're gonna have to go all the way to the other side

If the PUG is rough I do check the score board, I need to have a general idea who is doing the best and I will go out of my way to make sure they stay alove, when the other two go down I will pair up to the end of the wave, I can solo but it just makes it easier....on this old guy:)

unknown/unknown/unknown? :)

I usually try to stick with the team to some extent.  If nothign else, it gives you experiance using a kit in a different way.  Not always practical as some kits don't lend themselves to multiple play styles.

PuGs usually go well. More so now than in the first month or two after Christmas. That's partly because Gold was flooded with new players, and partly because I was new to Gold, myself.

And I generally adjust to my team's strategy, with a few exceptions.

I was the pug the other day. None of my buddies were playing me3 so I just searched for a UUG. Everyone was on mic, so I said hello. Got no response and realized the other 3 were in a party chat. The first game with them went really well, though I could tell they were fairly new to gold (camping out and such). When we got back to the lobby they invited me into their chat.

Next game I helped them through their first successful gold collector game. First PUg in a while in which everything went better than expected.

In pugs, there is no comfort zone. Look around the lobby and say, "he's gonna die, he's gonna die, he's gonna die...". You'll be right. Can't get comfy with that.

Eh, my comfort zone playstyle is to run around and shoot like a bronze guy. There's always a higher chance of problems with doing that than simply camping in a nice spot so there's not real "comfort zone".

Only when i see the at least 2 others are not morons and are camping in a tactical manner, i might join them. Eg Camping Rio's container half with 1 outside the BOS, 1 next to the stairs, 1 at the 2 box high cover along the BOS corridor. I normally take the chest high cover in the pillar hack area. This supresses all the spawn spots in the container half and all enemies funnel from the front.

Alternatively, i'll be flanking the enemy by using them as bait. Eg Giant LZ camp particularly at wave 11. I'll be at the spawn spot in the middle of the LZ and the ammo box down the ramp. This suppresses the spot and pushes the enemy out to the ramp up to the command center or the ammo box buying time for enemies to shoot. If you select location you're at, you also have an angled view at incoming enemies and can shoot at mooks that climbed up the ladder.

I actually prefer pugs. It's more of an adventure than playing with friends. Friend games are usually more fun and trolling each other, but there's just something about pugs that keeps me playing them. Maybe it's the whole "single-serving friend/game" idea. Get in. Get out. Next lobby please...

I don't care about score either, unless I'm not #1, then I'm annoyed and start rage gelling or missiling. I blame lag or some other random factor beyond my control.

Today's excuse: solar flairs

I deliberately go out of my way to try odd builds and weapon setups. That's how I get out of a 'comfort zone.'

But strategy wise... I'm getting to the point of being able to carry Gold, but I'm not good at it. So I'd rather use a strategy I'm confident the PUG can handle, which is usually something like 'hold the high ground, fall back when necessary.'
