Serves them right.
They want to hide from a war, then they can die the fastest when it hits them.
Another war the Asari will never win.
That's all they do is hide behind species with actual compentant armies.

Thessia is all "doom and gloom" because the script dictated you should feel "doomy and gloomy."

That's real funny. I like the completely ridiculous implication that a story imparting a certain tone is somehow bad writing.

Then you must've made up that particular implication.

Oh. Well, if that's true, then my mistake. Usually some variation of 'the plot said so' is meant as a derogatory remark implying there's no reason in-story.

There's reason in-story, I won't deny that. My problem is that I wasn't able to play my Shepard at that particular moment (in fact, I wasn't to play my Shepard for most of ME3). So Shepard can be a jerk to his closest friends but can't get angry at the Asari Councilor for hiding the truth about a Prothean beacon? I felt like I was being railroaded here, my character was supposed to feel sad according to the script but I, the player, was feeling pissed off. This mismatch between Shepard's feelings and my own caused a disconnect, one of many certainly but probably the worst in all.

That's an understandable complaint. What other instances did you feel your weren't able to play 'your' Shepard?

Regarding Thessia, i so agree with this.
I play paragon, but damn if i wanted to channel some Javik on the asari councilor.
"So i've tried to warn you (and others) for three years, then you refused to help because Krogans smell or Salarians talk too fast, then i discover you've hidden important information until YOU needed help on Thessia, and NOW i have to apologize?"

No. I care about stories, and I'm always interested in learning. But I can't do that if I don't know what problems people have. Well, yes I can, but this fresh perspective is always good.

I think the doom and gloom is due more to the fact that Shepard has just been defeated. The Prothean VI was viewed as being essential to the war effort, and it had just been stolen by the Reapers' indoctrinated thralls.

Where Thessia was a bigger loss is in that all the death and destruction seemed to be for nothing. With Earth and Palaven there was still some hope that the 'free' planets would manage to rally, pool their resources and solve the Reaper problem. After Thessia, that hope was much slimmer and defeat was literally staring them in the face.

Also Thessia is a far more strategic planet than Earth. The Asari have the largest economy in the galaxy, based around their equally large eezo reserves. Meanwhile the galactic economy was already starting to near the breaking point before Thessia.

As for the actual state of Thessia in the post-war, I have to agree with Barquiel that it would have faired better than all of the other homeworlds. It spends a lot less time occupied by the Reapers than Khar'Shan, Earth, and Palaven, and unlike Palaven is not contested to the same degree. I think Khar'Shan likely got it the worst, followed by Palaven and Earth, and finally Thessia. The only homeworld likely to emerge from the Reaper War in better condition than Thessia is Sur'Kesh, which is largely untouched by the war. The war ends before the Reapers get there.

Of course even with less devastation and depopulation you'd probably still be talking about millions of dead and whole cities reduced to rubble.

I think it's more doom and gloom with regards to Thessia, because Shep and company were so close to getting the data.

That and it's the first time Shep is really "defeated", although he really wasn't since it took a gunship to do it.

I found that scene a bit lol.

In Mass Effect 2, Shepard even shot down multiple Gunships >WITH A PISTOL<

The power scaling in Mass Effect is lol worthy xD

He says that the Asari brought this upon themselves.

Liara is unwilling to accept it. He is right.

Ah yes, a female military force getting the crap kicked out of them by overwhelmingly powerful cybernetic gods. That was funny. More fighting and less dancing. What happened on Earth? On Khar'Shan? Oh that. It didn't make any fracking difference.

Shepard has dreams about a child........ <_<  Liara cries about her home world.

Those gunships didn't have a blinding light, though.

Alot of the races are unwilling or unable to accept or even see how screwed up they can be.

And yes, Javik was spot on there.  No tact as usual, but he was right.

And Liara irritated the hell out of me with her dialogue in that mission.  She acted as if all the Reaper attacks didn't mean anything until it hit her people.  Husks were no big deal until they were Asari husks.  Made me want to pull her aside and throw her back on the shuttle so I could get someone more reliable as a squadmate and who wouldn't start going to pieces at the first sign of things not being right.

Yup. When Palaven had these lava cracks that was much more emotional to me.

I....actually dont blame the asari from looking to their own interests first...frankly, most races would do the same thing.

The game itself points this out when you walk past the two guards between the CiC and war room.

But here, as an earlier poster mentions, it doesn't even make humans look good. Shepard literally says "we need your fleets to take back earth" and right in the background, you ltierally see palaven burning...

Hell, I never once get the impression that earth itself is in bad as shape as palaven was
