I'm a firm believer that your score is directly related to your contribution in completing the current mission.

This is only true to a point since it is more than possible to accumulate many XP points doing things that are completely irrelevant to the mission, or even detrimental to the mission.

Of course, OniGanon did a nice experiment trying to find the "floor" for points, which also is a real concept.  The lowest I was ever able to get in a UUG was ~20k something using a QFI only sabotaging targets.  This was a game with friends and was an experiment.  Granted, it is sabotage, so sometimes the points go to other characters if they touch the target before backfire so it is a little apples to oranges.

As for a ceiling, since the score is mostly is damage based but skewed towards kills, there is going to be something of a practical limit imposed on players with early manifests and limited gear or consumables since those setups cannot output as much damage.  In any case trying to figure out what rank they should be and if the rank matters is largely a waste of effort since that will depend on the experience and setups of the other players in the lobby.

Yeah sure, but it is not a "support weapon", it is a top noch mook killer on any kit that has a fast detonating power. Overload, concshot, etc. It is especially deadly on turians: TGI, TSol, TSent. It is just scary good on the TGI. Though I rarely use it on turians because I prefer to headshot.

Oh, you meant it that way. I concur then :)

Well, the game does not give points for debuffing, combos, crowd control, reviving, objectives... only for kills (damage dealt).

The scoreboard simply shows who did the most damage, not more, not less.

?

No.

Also, scoreboard shows how many points you accrued based on the point system during the whole match.

That's not true at all.

Debuffing counts as an assist, the Revive medal adds points, Device objectives add points, and Combos are worth far more than non-combo kills.

If I get 50 kills with a Human Sentinel, I will get a significantly higher score than I will getting 75 kills with a Drell Assassin.

Of course, OniGanon did a nice experiment trying to find the "floor" for points, ....

If you're referring to a thread about 3 or 4 months back, he didn't do the experiment himself, I did.

In that thread, OniGanon said that he thought it was impossible to score much under 8k, and I described my attempt on the challenge, such as it was. I experimented to see if it was actually possible.

I took the Jugg to Bronze and stood under the LZ on Jade for an entire game, doing no objectives or damage. On the third try I was able to get my final score down to a hair under 8k.

I am used the be "carried along" on gold, somehow I don't manage to deal great amounts of damage.

But I keep activating objectives, lure enemies away from the extration point and keep ressurecting my team members.

Last night i was around 30k points while everyone else was around 90-100k, but in the end they would have wasted 30minutes of game time because I was the only one left alive dancing around 3 banshees and several other reapers while praying to stay alive the last 10 seconds.

As for me I feel fine as long as I somehow manage to contribute to victory, even if it means just not geting ito their way. :D

Not gonna lie, the one thing in this game that rustles my suit-jimmies is the rare occasion when some other BSNer with a combo spam character outscores my Quarksman despite my 20 headshots and 75+ weapon kills, while not even getting a 50 kill biotic/tech or weapon medal.

I get buttmad, then I switch to grenade gear QME and no one else has a good time.

The score is generally a reliable measure of contribution at least on all waves but 3-6-10, but is broken to irrationally reward people who use EZ mode no-aim combospam kits and don't help with objectives (they are worth the same amount of xp as like two mooks or a single mini-boss). Also, ignoring bosses is generally the best way to play unless you are a kit like GI or huntress because they otherwise aren't worth the time it takes to kill them in terms of score and budget.

Truth. I think it's a psychological thing though. They get the attention of everyone and are really the enemy version of a Salarian engineers decoy. This allows the more mobile, and sometimes, dangerous enemies close on you. Frankly, I tend to ignore screamers, giant crabs, and sluggish tanks in favor of searching out the real boshtets skulking around.

I guess I prioritize these days. Scions, ravagers, and the most evil mofos of them all, Cerberus engineers and their ^&%#$&^#! turrets, are always better targets than the others. At least initially. Once the crowd has been thinned then they're all fair game.

The problem with Praetorians is that they move faster than other Collector units while also being the most dangerous one of them. So no, you can't really ignore them.

That's true...i think it comes down to the situation. Praetorians are silent until they are right on top of you or until you see their lasers nailing you through walls...It's kinda hard to ignore Banshees as well. You really can't try to take care of the smaller enemies like marauders, when you keep hearing two Banshees warping and jumping around the map. I've tried to ignore them a few times and ended up with them warping in front of me or warping behind me and grabbing me from behind.

Even moreso sometimes banshees will be locked onto a certain teammate and you will be forced to deal with her. I've had games where  she would follow me around the entire map, so i was forced to deal with her. So in general, you should try to get rid of the smaller enemies first, but i think it becomes more of a situational scenario depending on what is going on in the game.

Of course it's a call thing. Praetorian, Banshee, and Phantom are herders. They tend to funnel you toward the SOBs I mentioned above. All of them have a stop phase; they pause in their pursuit somewhere along the line. Banshees in particular are the easiest to force into this stationary phase. Drop their barrier and they stop teleporting for a bit.

All of them can be kited on most maps. Glacier being so small is the least effective to do kiting though. Most of the time you just buck up there and attack whatever happens to be in your face. That said, if given the chance to ignore them temporarily to attack the others I will do it every time. I can't tell you how many times I've watched people focus on a Banshee and ignore the two Ravagers about to obliterate them.

They move about as fast as vanilla Turian run speed, which is pretty awesome if you are playing a Turian.

Which is why, as I play Turians a lot, I kill Praetorians first if I can.  Ravengers are second on the priority list.  Then Husks--because...
