Really? I thought he was the usual Generic-Mc-Grim-Man-Hero as Twisted Path put it so elequently. I also found it funny how nearly every woman in the game all wanted to dive down on him the instant they saw him.

Comperatively speaking, he is one of the best looking male characters in the game.

Also, the girls who were after him were mostly either ****s or girls whom he had saved. Doesn't seem too strange to me.

I think Bioware should look at BG and NWN,because Skyrim is not the first Elder Scroll.

I've played both TW and TES series. Honestly though, I still pick DA:O over those games. It's just my personal opinion, but I couldn't enjoy them as much as I enjoyed DA:O, especially TES series. Wandering around without any goal, any driven purpose, and surrounded by shallow characters, I found myself bored after few hours of playing. TW has better story (well, it's based on famous books anyway) but the overly use, overly expose sex is kinda annoying to me. If they need to look up other games, BioWare should look up their own products. I missed their epic games that they gave us before (BG, NWN, Jade Empire, KOTOR).

Oh look, it's the weekly Witcher thread!

How 'bout NO. I can do without twitch combat, a set protagonist, a forced sexuality, etc, in my Dragon Age.

Seems dang strange to me. Someone saves you =/=throw yourself on them and offer sex.

You too? It's beyond strange to me. Makes me wonder whether I'm doing it wrong and should proposition my M.D., since, apparently, it's the thing to do.

Witcher's women aren't after Geralt because he's good-looking (Iorveth looks better, and no-one throws herself at him :P) or because he saves them, but because he's the PC. Nothing wrong with that, but trying to rationalize it is a tad pointless.

As for the OP, what works for the WItcher or Skyrim doesn't automatically works in DA. Three different franchises. Take crafting, for instance. I love it, but it's very time consuming, and keeps you out of story while you're doing it, so I'm not sure it'd work in DA at all. As for things such as attention to detail or gorgeous scenary, it shouldn't have to be "inspired from." Ideally, it should be a given.

People are really still going on about the sex cards? CDProject already admitted it was a stupid feature that's why they took it out for TW2 (which has btw exactly as many "partners" for Geralt as DA:O has for the Warden).

The Witcher did choice and consequence very well, but that is imo the only thing from TW that would really work in Dragon Age.
As for Skyrim, I really don't know what they would want to take from there except maybe the books.

I'd prefere if different franchises did different things so every player has options.

No, they are talking about that Elf in W2, who offers sex, because Geralt saved them.
You never saw or spoke to her.....
So totally random. lol

I never played a Witcher game, so I can't comment on that part, but I think DA can learn in areas like a responding, living world, how to make your maps larger and still interesting,  and crafting in general from Skyrim. That said, no copy&paste of these features, but to experiment how you could involve them in DA.

For the rest I would advice to only look into Origins and DA II, but more into Origins.

I hope neither. I liked skyrim and TW2 but bioware makes my favorite RPGs and they need to stick with the thing they do better then anyone else. they make the best characters

I hope DA3 takes more from Super Mario... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAA

*crickets.*

ETA:

If anything, BioWare should just brush up their writing. When it's good, it's great, when it's bad, it's still good, but inconsistent. That's where TW2 excells were a lot of other games don't: solid writing. I find it VERY hard to point out a flaw in the narrative of that game.

Ah I thought they talked about TW1 because of the plural. The Elf was really weird, though I never took the offer.

Regardless of what they do, I doubt DA3 will reach 10 million copies sold. It's just not going to happen and I don't think EA should expect it to do that well.

I doubt the idea of driving the players into a straight line narrative experience would appeal over 10 million gamers. Even children don't like it when you hand held them too much. Let alone adults.

Bioware should learn how to balance the game-play.In witcher 2 the dark mode was a challenge as it was well thought out(I had an extremely challenger encounter with the guy who could respec your skills, forget his name) compared to nightmare in DA 2 which was awfully designed.Just more hp and damage isn't the right way to do it.

I thought you were about to use Skyrim as an example of balanced gameplay, and I was ready to smite you for it.

If they're making it like the Witcher, why shouldn't people play the Witcher instead of a cheap imitation? Dragon Age needs to make their game stand-out in their own ways instead of copying from Skyrim or Witcher or whatever Medieval games out there. The game needs to be made so that people could say other developers should make games like Dragon Age instead of the other ways around.

Just to make it clear to those that have some form of problem with Skyrim. Emulating certain aspects of a game that has sold over 11 million copies, it not a bad idea. Don't tell me you don't want to be able to craft your own gear, own multiple houses and even have books in them?

I do not want to craft my own gear, I don't care about owning a house and thus can't care if I place books in it or not.

There is nothing generic about Geralt, which you would have probably seen if you gave the Witcher games the chance they deserve.

He is his own man, with his own set of beliefs, that you can shape throughout the game [often through his actions]. He is not a wisecracking ass or some "savior of orphans" and often deals with prejudice directed at him or his friends.

Damn, that's why I hate when people play games for few hours and then say things like you said ; /

To be clear I was saying that I thought the Witcher was a pretty cool game but I just couldn't get into it because of the *impression* I got from the main character and the fact that I prefure RPGs where I can build my own character or characters from scratch. The game is still sitting up on my shelf and one of these days I'm going to try and play through it again.

I dislike the notion that BioWare is incapable of making their own game and thus they have to copy either the Witcher or Skyrim (and yes, I am aware of the who whole "aggressively looking at Skyrim" thing). What Dragon Age 3 should be, in my opinion, is a mix of the very best things from the first two games.

Bioware has said that they have already taken what they think was the best from Origins and put it in DA2, and Bioware are now mentioning many DA2 features that will be returning but seem to be having trouble finding any features from Origins returning, it seems that the talk of the best of both games was just Bioware PR spin.

I think we are going to make the game WE want to make.

Sure you will always be influenced by other games(movies/art/writing/etc) previous and current, and you can use that, but you must remain true to your own design, goals, and vision.
