According to David Gaider (http://social.biowar...x/14614580&lf=8),
you will NOT be forced to serve the Chantry or express belief in the
Maker. They will be attempting to allow you to actively express doubt or
belief, if the situation calls for it.

So you'll be able to express doubt or belief... What about disbelief!? Or something along the lines of "I don't believe in the Maker but if he does exist I will most definitely not worship him" Also what about the other religions of Thedas? Like the Old Gods, the Elven Pantheon, the Paragons and, although not exactly a religion, the Qun? What part will they play in DAIII: Inquisition?

What is your opinion about the topic? Would you like to declare your contextualized beliefs? Do you have a preference in any of them? Would you be frustated to only have a doubt or belief option?

Poll: Would you like to declare disbelief in religions in DAIII?

All I want is to be able to express that I don't believe in this "Maker". Even if he exists and I'm wrong. If we have concrete proof that he exists I still don't want to worship him.

This is a bit different than atheism then. If you don't like the Maker, as a quote by Gaider earlier in this thread from LobselVith8:

You aren't going to be forced to serve the Chantry or even think it's a good thing. You aren't forced to express belief in the Maker. I said previously we would try to allow options to actively express doubt, if that's your thing, so long as it works in context. You of course will also have the option to do the opposite.

So you may not have the ability to actively speak out against The Maker, you by no means are forced to worship the Maker either, nor express belief in him.

Setting or lore might have something to do with this, if I am guessing right. Maybe if Thedas ever reaches the 20th/21st century. Still, I'm glad there's an option not to express belief. My characters would probably express belief, but that's my reading of the setting.

It's as much about deciding where to spend our words, IMO.

We are quite aware that we have many fans who dislike organized religion and also many for whom religion has been a positive force in their lives. We are keeping both groups of players in mind while we write. Obviously, we can't promise a perfect experience for everyone, but we are quite conscious of both points of view and are striving to recognize them in the game.

I just find it strange that people say that when they hate the religion. Being indifferent is one thing but hating it?

Because the phrase is just a bunch of words to them.  Ones that have probably been used within similar contexts (being startled or injured).

I'm probably more indifferent than hateful towards religions, but I also state things like "Jesus Christ" or "God dammit" both in written and spoken words.

It's a way of conveying a level of outrage, usually, to which I have simply heard enough in my own life, and I have a reasonable understanding of how someone might interpret the words that I am saying, regardless of whether or not the listener is Christian.

As a counter point, I find it strange that someone would object to using a popular phrase as an effective swear because they hate the religion.  On the other hand, I have much more exposure to religious people preferring to not say phrases like that, because they consider it disrespectful to their own religion.

Please do not get into definitions as to what is or is not a "CRPG" vs "JRPG" or anything of the like.
