Is it possible to beat the Fake Andrestae Dragon near The Gauntlet? What kind of party setup do you need for it?

Lv 17-18, Mage PC, Alistair, Lelianna and dunno about the last one. Morri I think.

That did for me, on Nightmare.

But I´ve seen claims to have her soloed, so just try.

It's very possible (at least according to all the people that I have seen post about it). I've only played that far once, on normal, level was 16+ (not sure exactly). Party was my DW rogue PC, Alistair, Shale, and Morrigan.

I did it at level 12ish with Alistair, Wynne, Leliana, and a dual-wield Warrior PC, but it took forever. There was much death and Revival.

Edit: I never wiped - there were always at least two members of the party standing - but my main damage dealers kept going down, so the fight took quite a while.

the trick is to buy tonnes of health potions and set your party to use them as soon as their health drops even a tiny bit. That did it for me anyway

I did it quite easily at a high level (18 maybe, it was post-Landsmeet) with DW warrior PC, Alistair, Shale, and Wynne. No deaths that I remember, and just giving Wynne healing potions. But then Wynne makes just about any battle pretty easy for me nowadays. I'm about to try it in the next few days with my DW rouge at a lower level, so we'll see how that goes.

Oh, one thing I remember: Don´t rely on disables, they last VERY short, if they work at all, she´s immune to fire but vulnerable to frost, and she has high armor. So skills like Sunder Armor or Telekinetic Weapons are useful.

Fire resist gear is nice to have. You can always take a break from the quest, visit Denerim and have Wade make you some leather armour, for example.

Cone of Cold is both effective and funny. Force Field on either your tank once he has taunted or on the dragon if your party starts hurting is quite useful. If memory serves, Ageless is a two handed sword that does +10 to dragons.
If your party has a mage, you may want to adjust tactics to allow for automatic consumption of lyrium potions. One or more mages set that way will rapidly deplete your potion supply but for a long hard boss fight it can save you from micro management hell.

Correction: Yusaris is the anti-dragon sword. Ageless is nice to have as well tho'.

You can do it with just about any set up. Having a real tank and a dedicated healer does make things a lot easier though.

You'll want the dragon to focus on one party member and turn it away from the rest of your group. Keep this person that's tanking it topped off constantly by a mix of healing spells and potions because if the dragon grabs your tank you'll need a constant stream of healing to keep that person alive.

The rest of your group should be killing the dragon as quickly as they can while this is all happening.

Winter forge mod will let you solo anything. hides the cheating too.

I usually leave and go get my second set of Wade's armor then come back with Alistair, Wynne, and Morrigan. I've done it on nightmare with both an archer/dw rogue and a dw warrior. As said above, I also set my mages up to take lyrium on their own and Alistair and my PC to take health poltices on their own.

"HowTo Kill Every Dragon In The Game v.1.0"

1) Have Alistair or Shale or whatever (whatever works only if you have a mage with force field) whack the dragon from melee.

2) Heal or forcefield him + potions if needed / if you don't have an healer

3) Quaff a fire protection potion. Not needed but it's a plus.

4) Attack the stupid dragon with ranged attacks et voilà

All ranged or 3 ranged and a meleer. If you do the latter, keep the meleer running around the dragon in a tight circle and stabbing when he gets to the dragon's flank. You don't want to stand there and fight it since the dragon will use its grab attack if it's facing you and the dragon can't attack while it's turning (so this slows down the rate at which the dragon can attack you). Dragons also have a couple of blind spots on the outside and inside of the rear leg where it can't hit you, so if you can stand there you can get about 2 or 3 hits in before it turns. You will take damage meleeing the dragon so go for a high armor value on the tanking character.

If you do all ranged, look for places where the dragon can't fit, the arch on the path leading up to the cavern, the sides of the circle of ruins and put the archers there. The dragon does have a pull ability so have something you can duck behind if it tries to pull you. If you do this, you will have to heal a lot of fire damage so consider using greater warmth balms and fire resist gear.

There are other ways of killing the dragon but these methods will result in you taking the least damage.

Winter forge is nice, though it makes not cheating hard. Anyways, your avatar hurts my eyes.

Not Ageless, but Yusaris gives that bonus, which is found in the Circle Tower.

The biggest key to that dragon is what level you are when you first go to the Gauntlet .. she'll be about 3 levels above your level then.. you go there at level 10 she'll be 13ish, you leave and come back later and she's still 13 while you may now be level 20... If you wait till the very last to go there she could easily be in the 20s depending upon your level and make the fight very very hard.

But it is way more fun that way. I made things really hard for myself during my first playthrough it seems... *sighs*

Me too. First game I did Redcliff last, so did Urn when I was like level 17ish.. ended up attempting to kill it 10 times before I decided the world needs more dragons and went back to cure the Arl. Next game I did Redcliff first quest, came back to attempt the dragon again right before Landsmeet and the dragon went down so fast I was confused since I had virtually the same party as the previous game.

Then I read my strategy guide... d'oh!

there's an exploit movie on youtube for the xbox. apparently there are a few points on the map where the dragon will always perform the same turns and it can be killed with a ranged solo character if you constantly visit those points. the guy demonstrating it just let the others in his party die to get rid of them and perform his exploit "magic".

Well, I dream of having sex with mine. So I beat you both. Besides, mine doesn´t look so evil like yours, Skelli. And the haircolor is so... terrible. So unnatural, it makes you shiver in pain.
