I don't understand how it's possible for this game to be so AWESOME and so FRUSTRATING at the same time!!!

I just got presented with the worst moral choice ever:  kill a child, sacrifice
his mother, or leave a demon free for a short time.  Then went to the
tower of the magi to find a fourth option (leaving the demon free) and
got lost in the Fade.

Everything looks the same where I am, and mouse holes and fade portals are impossible to keep track of, so the only way I know if I'm somewhere new is whether I get attacked or maybe find a corpse of a previous kill on the ground...

but I'm having a BLAST!!!  :o

I really hated the Fade the first time I went through. It's still not my favorite, but doesn't irritate me as much as the "Caves, caves, caves, hey look! More caves!" you have to deal with later in the game.

I can point you to a good walkthrough for the Fade if you end up getting too frustrated with it.

Oh, I wasn't really asking for help. :) I was just extolling the virtues of this game, which is the best I've played in many years. I would have posted in General except I wanted to mention the parts of the game that led me to feel I had to post, and that could be considered spoilers.

Haha, I had the same feeling my frist run through the Fade. I think I finally just started going through doors and holes at random until I just ended up where I needed to be.

Oh, the Fade was terrible the first time I went through it. Took me ages. Then I finally figured out where I was going. My second run through wasn't too bad, except that I was a low-level rogue. Used a lot of healing potions until I finally got the useful shapeshifting forms.

My only real problem with the Fade is the washed out "effect" that runs through it. For whatever weird reason, it seems to play havoc with my eyes. I'm colour blind, and the effect they used made seeing what was going on really difficult.

Other than that I thought it was one of the funner parts of the game.

I hated the Fade to begin with. It just seemed so random at first. After a couple of playthroughs, though, I figured it out and now I can whip through it. Of the two lengthy dungeon-crawl-type quests, I prefer the Fade to the other one.

I prefer the Fade too, for the same reason as Freckles. Now that I've done it often enough, I can whip through it faster. There's nothing much that speeds up Orzammar. It's still a slog.

I'll take a longer version of the Fade than the Deep Trenches any day.

I love the dark underworld. I would rather slay the darkspawn for real rather than slaying them in my dreams ;)

I like to break Orzammar up. Do the Circle, run through Orzammar, do the Urn, run through Caridin's cross, do Redcliffe, do Deep Trenches, run through Brecilian, finish off Anvil. That keeps things fresh and means I'm not too heavily laden with loot.

It also means I see a lot of Old Tegrin. Funny how Alistair doesn't get suspicious....

I might try that method.   I admit there are areas in  Orzammar that are fun but some areas I truly  can't stand.

I really hated the Fade level because of all the backtracking you had to do through the places you already went through.

Strangely, I didn't mind the Deep Roads at all.

This would make me one of the odd ones then.

I love the fade. No matter which character I play, getting Wynne first (I hate Morrigan) has always been my first goal and its almost always to the Circle of Magi after Lothering for me and always liked the fade as its the only time you get to be the "real" hero saving your companions not to mention shapeshifting between forms to "optimise" your battles. Burning man fireball to set your enemies alight and knock them down, shift to golem to stun and AOE damage them, shift to spirit form for boss fights to imprison it, then shift back to the golem to beat said boss down. Fun.

I'd love to be able to do the same for the fade, if it wouldn't completely break the whole point of being there.  I like the fade but having to go around twice can be pretty annoying, especially without any banter or fun conversations to distract you from the grinding.

That's the fun part. Try choosing different options in your next runs.

Btw, the shapechange ability in the Fade is my favorite part.
