Yeah, but there is a fine line between giving those who deserve it a bit of exposure, and starting a witch hunt that make all the forum nuts and the ambiance completly deleterious.

That fine line is called Self Moderation and that line has been crossed far too many times.

No way. If people really care about "even playing fields" then they would take a more extreme stance than air quotes does.

PEDs run RAMPANT in all competitive elite hobbies/sports/games.

People made a "witch hunt" out of lance armstrong, but the people who knew better already knew he had been taking PEDs for years, as do all of the elite cyclists. The difference here, is that Air Quotes hasn't made N7-Link a scapegoat like the USDA did Lance Armstrong in an effort to console the mainstream consumers that they are "doing their job to make the sport 'fair'" which is a joke.

If anything, Air Quotes is the reality-check telling the credulous masses that they are worshipping someone who plays an entirely different game

And for that we should all suffer the bad ambiance, all PC players should all accept to be considered guilty before proven innocent ?

i don't accept that.

There are tools that are at everyones's disposition to report cheaters, and if you don't know how to, you can PM a moderator.

But setting the forum on fire for a "reality check" is not a solution, it only make the forum a bad place to be.

1st part is a slippery slope argument.

So, what if the moderators don't do anything about the cheater... for months? Do we still allow people to idolize or accept these "accomplishments" at face value?

If you don't like Air Quote's method for a solution, what could you propose to find a better one? Reporting has shown to be very innefective, while what Air Quotes brought up with N7-Link got his account wiped very quickly

No system, is perfect, but it is still better than to do justice yourself.

As far as i can recall you don't do justice yourself in the real world, you don't go beating people who cheated on their wife or stole a purse ? so why would you do it on the internet ?

Because the internet is different ?, the only thing that makes it different to you is that the feeling of anonimity makes you confident enough that you think that making your own justice is justified while it is not.

No i don't like the method, i have nothing against a little exposure, but i have something against going overboard.
I understand very well that you both don't like to be bull****ted by cheaters who wants their moment of glory, i don't like it either, but contrary to both of you i don't react the same.

What i propose ?, i propose we let whoever is in charge do their job, even if it's not that efficient, it is still better than creating a platform war and a lame shortcut that state that all pc players are cheater just because they are pc players.

If they have stopped banning cheaters on reports, what makes you think they will ban a cheater because you over expose him ?

Yeah, I agree that it worked and that he should be given credit for that, alongside Peddro.

But, in general, I agree with Kaall's stance on it. While these hackusation may prove right sometimes, and it's definitely right to do them when you have proof (and I did it too in that case, as AQ knows), I also believe that there are ways and ways to do it, and that the overall atmosphere in which AQ's been operating is not for the best of this forum.

It is also, in my opinion, symptom of a mentality that does no good to the accuser - same thing I said before.

It's the kind of mentality which makes you think everyone doing more than you do (or someone else you know and trust and admire) is using some kind of unfair advantage. Now this kind of mentality is not only bad for everyone around you and the guys you accuse, as it usually sparkls flames and discussions obviously... But most of all, it's bad for you. The accuser.

Because following that mentality deprives you of one of the greatest stimuli to push yourself to your limits and beyond - admiration. Seeing someone doing something great, and genuinely thinking "holy ****, this guy is great! I wanna do the stuff he does!" is the kind of thing which really makes you push your limits beyond where they were before - and that's a great thing. And it's great wheter the guy did those things with an unfair advantage or not.

If you instead think "he's got an unfair advantage, of course he's better than me" everytime you see someone doing something better than you, you'll never grow. As an athlete, or as a player, or as whatever. You'll indulge in your position thinking that it's the best you can do - and it never is.

Then when you do something like that in a videogame - not a big deal. But if you do something like that in your real life, in a sport for example... It's quite worse, believe me. I've seen it a lot.


That said, I'm not saying you necessarily share that mentality. But what you wrote sparkled a warning in my head. I might be wrong, but if I'm not I'd like to say something.

Don't take it as a critique, take it maybe as an occasion to question yourself and think about what I said, and see if you're actually sharing a mentality which does no good for you.

That is - if there is even the slighest chance of you listening to a random guy on the interenet blabbing about this kind of stuff
