Deus Ex Human Revolution I have to say is the best. It excels on all fronts, story, presentation, gameplay, tech, and everything is very tightly interwoven and polished.

Mass Effect has a great characters and story, at least until the third entry. Tech goes back and forth throughout the games. Gameplay is weak in the first entry, strong in the second, and the third seemed to take a step sideways. The polish is acceptable in the first, great in the second, and teeters on the toilet in the third.

Bioshock Infinite has an extraordinary story presentation, gameplay, and especially polish, but is very weak on the tech, as very little of it is explained.

Halo has average story and presentation, good gameplay, good tech, but the polish is good, but I think where it excels is the concepts, which it never explores to it's fullest extent.

Half-Life (2) has excellent story and presentation, solid gameplay, excellent polish, but weak tech, as little of anything is explained.

Crysis (2) had a great story (IMO) and presentation, great gameplay and polish, but very weak tech that only consisted of the suit, and some energy weapons.

Fallout (3 + NV) have great story, but sub-average presentation, decent gameplay and polish and sub-average tech

I can't speak about gears of war as I haven't played it, or killzone, as I haven't finished it.

Hmm, Halo 4 managed to tug at my heart strings a bit. This gen leaves quite a bit of room to maneuver, but I was pretty impressed with the narrative.

Edit: Actually, in general, Halo always seems to surprise me. With each game (from ODST, to Reach), I think I'm going to get tired of the narrative, but it ends up being a damn good time.

I'd say that story-wise, Deus EX HR grabs me the most. It's not perfect, of course. There are three or four things that really bug me. But it achieves a really intriguing tone for the most part. I especially liked the idea of conversations that are kind of like persuasion "boss fights."

Mass Effect 3 had some of the very best visuals, like the cut scenes for Priority Tuchanka. Great, man.

Character-wise, it's all Borderlands.

Did you...did you just JUMP OFF the Buzzards' Nest? I'm so proud of you! You're like the best Slab ever!

1. E.Y.E. - Divine Cybermancy

2. then Deus Ex. Then everything else. ME2 comes some time later on the list. Found nothing interesting in ME's plot personally.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Fallout 3, Fallout: NV, Ratchet and Clank: TOD and Ratchet and Clank: ACIT. That's literally all I can think of.

I consider Bioshock series sci fi because of it's heavy focus on science and technology that is extremaly advanced, plus Infinte deals with time and paradoxs which for me is very strong science(Dr.Who for example)

Again, just my opinion :)

Steampunk is Sci-fi

Yeah, "Steampunk" came to mind. I didn't know they were one and the same though. I thought they each had noticeable asthetical differences.

It's not commonly thought of as science fiction, but as sci-fi is a very broad umbrella it technically is.

Half-Life 2 came out in late 2004, that counts right?

The whole technology of "Adam" and plasmids is basically impossible, and presented as a scientific advancement. So, yes. Retro-futurism, but scifi.
