From what I understand a demon is put inside the mage? Doesn't that involve like blood magic and kind of go against all the Circle is formed to protect against?

You are sent into a section of the Fade that's carefully controlled by the Circle. In that section of the Fade are some demons, one in particular that you have to defeat. If you fail to defeat it, it will take possession of your body and you will become an abomination. When this has happened and becomes apparent, the Templars in the Harrowing chamber will kill you (Cullen specifically, in the PCs case... poor adorable Cullen).
