There's probably been a thread for this already in the past few years, but seeing as there has been new releases and I didn't want to hunt down then necro a thread... I made this.

Now it doesn't have to be the worst game ever, just something you were really looking forward to that didn't meet your expectations. Only exceptionally so.

Mine is most definitely Brink. I was so hyped up for this game. I overlooked the fact that the gameplay videos lacked much campaign info because I loved the aesthetics, gameplay, and background (story-wise). Then on release it was a steaming pile of Varren poo. There was no campaign and it utterly failed to blend offline and online play as it promised it would. The A.I. was atrocious and the online play was plagued by unstable servers.

Edit: Fixed spelling.

Installing Grand Theft Auto IV on my PC and seeing what happened to the graphics.

This isn't my video, but it gets the point across.

Dragon Age 2. I loved the game, but it could have been so much more :-/

Mass Effect 3 would be there too, but at least it was really good at the start, it only got crap to the point of no return @Priority Earth.

I'm having a hard time thinking of any. I don't usually buy games I know I won't like. I'll get back to you on this one.

I'd honestly say the most baffling experience I've had with a video game was The Witcher.

Dragon Age 2. Didn't like the game, at all. Loved the first though.

SimCity and Diablo 3. The DRM always online really ruined the experience since I live in the university, and their connection sucks big time.

How PS3 and XB360 have affected gameplay design, across the board.
Hopefully next generation consoles will have more resources for more interesting and satisfying gameplay ideas.

BioShock for me. The DRM locked me out of the game for a couple months right after installing it, then when I was finally able to play it, I actually never did because I'd lost interest and had moved on to other games.

I suppose I really should give it a go sometime.

Evolution Worlds, honestly the ending made me think "That was it???"

Oh and The Elder Scrolls and Fallout Series. While I haven't played all of them I'm basing my opinion off Oblivion, Skyrim, and New Vegas, I couldn't finish Oblivion or New Vegas and just barely finished the main quest line in Skyrim and the Civil War so there's things I missed and all, but I just never felt compeled the world and characters were all just so shallow and unintresting I literally had to force myself to shuffle through those games as long as I did.

And of course DA2 and ME3 are a given..

Fallout New Vegas

I've never played more than fifteen minutes without it crashing and everyone says it's a really good game. :(

Kingdoms of Amalur. I heard people talk about how it was a great open-world RPG with hundreds of hours of gameplay and a great combat system... never has a game felt like the worst parts of an MMO without even the distraction of actually being online.

^ Actually, true, KoA was a disappointment for me too. Though I enjoyed the demo back when, the full game gets really really tedious...

I hate to jump on the I hate ME3 bandwagon, but ME3 was the only game that I was ever disappointed by, Dragon Age 2 was crap but I was like whatever and AC3 was a bit **** too and still I was like meh but ME3 it was just so disappointing.

Really? Who told you that?

I only bought it because I knew it was a decent game for a cheap buck half a year ago. I have still to play it though.

OP:
I am not sure what mine is. Until I know for sure I'm just going to go with Assassin's Creed 3 because it's the one in recent times that falls closest.

Scratch that, I think I'll go with Amnesia.
It never lived up to its hype for me, but I also saw through the gameplay quickly.

The ending of NWN2 was not good. ME3 as well. As a single game it had enough things to make me happy but as a grand finale to a much loved series it was a huge let down. For actual game play it was the witcher. A horrid mouse click fest that left me with carpal tunnel after half a battle. Another game play one is Red Dead redemption, detested the save and when you die process with a passion.

Tbh I sorta knew that was going to be a bad game, Square haven't really made a decent Final Fantasy since IX.

Mass Effect 3, ruined the whole trilogy for me and not just because of the ending, although that contributes A LOT. It takes a certain kind of special for ONE game in a trilogy to screw up the other two.

Mass Effect 3's ending.

It was such a let down.
