I'm an Aliens fan, but I managed to resist the impulse to buy it after reading the reviews and having two different friends link the same hilarious GIF.
What has been your biggest disappointment in gaming so far?

I felt the same way. The first Bioshock is still easily my favourite of the series.TheJediSaint wrote...

Perhaps its just because its so recent, but the ending of Bioshock Infinite was incredibly disappointing to me. Loved the game itself but the ending just didnt deliver any level of satisfaction to me. Had I not loved the game and story to that point I probably wouldnt have cared about the ending.
.
I found Bioshock Infinite to be underwhelming, stunning visuals aside. The game's story just jumped around too much for my taste. It was by no measure a bad game, just not as good as the stellar orignal.

Thought the ending was even worse than ME3's. It's just that Mass Effect was a series where I thoroughly enjoyed the story, so AC3's came off as a bit less disappointing.

My issue isn't even so much the explanations, but instead that it feels like the game unnecessarily forced Infinite into the same universe/continuity as the original Bioshock.
Bioshock's plot twist had a certain simplicity to it. Infinite dabbles too much in time travel and alternate realities for my tastes. And not in a manner as interesting as, say, Legacy of Kain.
But the game does take the time to ensure that is not the case. Rapture is but another reality, completely seperate from that of Infinite. If one wanted to stretch it, one could perhaps say that in one of the many realities where Columbia is never established, Rapture is born in its place, alongside the plasmids. Columbia stands in parallel to Rapture with the foundation of both cities being based upon certain ideals, and the similarities between its people. Simplicity is nice I suppose, but I really like the more complex narratives, which leads a lot of speculation and make people come up with different interpretations of what the game was really about for a long time to come-- Anyway, this is very much off-topic and better suited for the BioShock thread. I just wanted to give my own reply to this

You know, I just finished playing it and I found Connor's ending to be sad but oddly fitting. That last scene with him and Lee together was quite powerful. Desmond's ending, on the other hand, was pretty underwhelming.

L.A. Noire, Neverwinter Nights (BioWare, not AOL / SSI nor Cryptic), Pool of Radiance: Curse of Myth Drannor, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Lionheart, Wing Commander Prophecy...
I'm sure I'm missing a few here and there, but that's what comes to mind.
Oh, and the top of my list - the last 1% or so of Mass Effect 3.

If they would've made it a little... more I might have liked it. As is it's abrupt and ridiculously short/non-explainative.

I think my biggest disappointment has always Dino Crisis 3. I loved those first two games. After two I couldn't wait to see Regina again, to see if she'd try & save Dylan and fix things. Then we got the first concept images. Third energy disaster, a New York like city swarming with Dinosaurs. Looked epic, looked like the story was going to move on into something really interesting. & then... & then we got zombie dinosaurs in outer space. Not that a story like that wouldn't be acceptable as a game, but come on! where was Regina, where was the conclusion to the story? Disappointment like no other, and I've never found out why it happened. Why did they drop the storyline and go with their space game? Where did the orginal DinoCrisis 3 go?

Assassin's Creed 3, Diablo III, ME3's singleplayer, Oblivion and Dragon Age II.
I actually like the last two in the list, 'tis just that they could have been so much more I can't help but think about all the potential whenever I start the game, lessening the pleasure I take out of playing it.

I hate to bandwagon on this one, but probably ME3.
I'm in the same boat, ME3 is about at the top of my list of most disapointing games.
Add another one to the pile. And not just the ending sucked for me.. a lot of it just irked me. Big let down, and felt like a sucker for buying it.

Most Marvel games have not been that great IMO. Although(with the exception of Superior Spider-Man) Marvel's comics have been pretty good the last six months.

Honestly, ME2 was a bigger disappointment for me. ME3 was pretty bad, but at least ME2 prepared me for it.

Then again, the community helped finish Gothic 3 with tons of patches and mods, while ME3 still remains a bit of a mess, and it's not just the endings.
... yeah, it's a tie between both for me.

Pretty much. The big problem that AC3 runs into, and it's not something that's tied strictly to the ending, is that thematically, there's not much cause for exploring Connor's backstory. The entire point of Revelations was Desmond concluding with his ancestors as he's ready to take up the mantle of an assassin himself. We see this at the conclusion of his puzzle arc.
Then AC3 hits us with a magic door, for which we need to explore Connor's backstory. And it's a fantastic story, but fails as a framing device. Connor's overarching narrative significance is nothing more than opening a door, for which Desmond is placed on the back burner (again). It says alot that until the door is opened, we still have no idea how he's supposed to save the world.

I believe they were both based on this - only with slightly different text added in each case: http://www.kotaku.co...al-marines-gif/
I would describe that as zombified shuffling (and while I love zombies, xenormorphs should not be bumbling around like this - not even when they're blind!

I wouldn't quite agree. Perhaps the majority of Marvel (or other super-hero licensed) games aren't great, perhaps, but there had been a string of, IMO, great Marvel games in a row.
Spider-Man 2, Hulk Ultimate Destruction, X-Men Legends, X-Men Legends 2, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance were all games I loved. MUA2 wasn't a horrible game, but it fell far short of MUA. Hence, big disappointment.
