What has been your biggest disappointment in gaming so far?

Seriously, as irritating as the re-used assets in DA2 (and ME1 for that matter) became, they didn't irk me anywhere near as much as the Oblivion Gates, and the fact that every single fort, castle, Ayleid ruin etc looked pretty much exactly the same only with a slightly different layout. Though this is probably because DA2 was shorter, and at least had some decent characters to keep me entertained. And ME1 was otherwise glorious.

Oblivion. I adored Morrowind, so I avidly followed Oblivion's development, pre-ordered the CE etc. I was gutted at the bland, badly voice-acted, repetitive, overly-simplified hiking sim. I wasn't expecting a brilliant narrative and characters since this isn't what Bethesda does best anyway, but I was expecting an environment I enjoyed exploring (edit: and gameplay that allowed me to explore that environment in different ways). Instead I was bored solid within the first few hours.

I also played Morrowind but I disagree with you but also agree, I felt Bethesda decided to take Oblivion on a much more role-play role than Morrowind, in Oblivion you can be sent to prison etc but in Morrowind you just get teleported outside of it. But I disliked the Oblivion gates popping everywhere you move and the sky turning red.

A book's just a book, a car is just a car, a sport is just a sport... you can go on and on. You can't really justify 'just a' to anything, especially with a medium that's grown and matured over the years.

Runner up: Heroes of Might & Magic IV
Yes, its battlefields weren't Mr.Obvious and bricked, so let's hate this game.
I can think that you're a stubborn one and didn't get Heroes V at all.
Heroes VI had gameplay issues. Bad power, damage hit-points rules, bad skill tree, bad design, incomplete-simplified parts.
But its battlefields are bricked, so obviously it's better than Heroes IV for you.

I wouldn't quite agree. Perhaps the majority of Marvel (or other super-hero licensed) games aren't great, perhaps, but there had been a string of, IMO, great Marvel games in a row.
Spider-Man 2, Hulk Ultimate Destruction, X-Men Legends, X-Men Legends 2, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance were all games I loved. MUA2 wasn't a horrible game, but it fell far short of MUA. Hence, big disappointment.
With the exception of the X-Men Legends series, I found most of those titles unsatisfactory. Although that just might be my bias towards Cyclops showing.
To each his own I guess.
I hold a strong bias towards Cyclops myself, and recent Marvel comics have only UPPED my animosity towards what BMB considers "writing" and "storytelling."
Spider-Man 2 was great not only for open world map but because the web swinging mechanic was so much fun. I remember how big a deal it was (I was unfortunately employed at EB Games at the time it came out) and the game kiosk was always packed with people just swinging Spidey all over the place! The game made traveling fun! Travel time is one of my biggest pet peeves in games, btw.
Ultimate Destruction was exactly what a Hulk game should be like. Exactly.

On topic, but away from the above discussion, I wasn't "disappointed" in DA2 enough for it to qualify. I had major reservations when that game came out, so my expectations were mixed but hesitantly low-ish. Certain parts surprised me at how much I enjoyed them, but in the end while I was "disappointed" with the game overall it was an expected disappointment (granted, I didn't expect to be disappointed about meaningless choices and bad storytelling) so it really doesn't measure up to the soul-crushing experiences of MUA2 or Lionheart or...
that ME3 excuse of an ending.

In recent years, Witcher 2. The fans had it hyped up as the second coming of RPGs, and that it clearly was not.
One playthrough may not be fair, and I don't think it was bad...
but after enjoying The Witcher a lot and buying all the hype, I found myself mildly disappointed with TW2. I wouldn't add it to my list, as I had expected way too much from that game, but when I finished it I found it to be good but nowhere near mind-blowing.

The game of life has disappointed me too. I always seem to end up living in the split-level home.

I think the biggest disappointment I ever had for a game was finding out that ME3 had multiplayer, but I absolutely loved the game so that doesn't really qualify.
I suspect I'm more of a realist in mindset than some.

You mean by having him act totally out of character for a major event and the ongoing series? Yeah, I have no idea why Bendis is writing like 20% of Marvel titles. His Avengers and Megaevent work is down there with Slott's Spider-Man IMO.

I hate to seem like I'm picking on you, but ME3(while not good at all) was pretty much as I expected after ME2. Going from ME to ME2, it feels like the universe has been warped and an unnecessary Deus Ex Machina plot device was used.

I remember a time when a new game in the main series would get me hyped for months in the build up to release, and I'd buy the game at launch and feel mesmerised by the new story, ability system etc.
This generation that has entirely disappeared, replaced a mini-trilogy of an FF story that didn't even sound promising back when FFXIII was in development. Now the franchise no longer interests me until they at least start fresh with a new story and a whole new approach.
