Hey, I am doing Priority Citadel II and am at the end of the mission when we get off the elevator and catch up to Kaidan and the Councliers. I am trying to get Kaidan to stand down so I can get him in my team but I can't get him to. I either end up shooting him or another team member does. I do lower my gun during the cut scene but just can't stop him.

I didn't give him the whisky when he was in the hospital unfortunately, but I did go to the hospital to see him and talked to him positively. I am not sure if there is anything I can do at this point to save him. I do have a save before this mission but its after Tuchanka and there is only one side mission available (Cerberus Fighter Base) to get increased Paragon if that is even what I need.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great thanks! Not sure if its my paragon or what?

That is... weird.

So far, I have always been successful in getting Ashley and Kaidan to stand down, regardless of how I handled them. Heck, I even ignored Ashley in the hospital completely and got her to stand down.

So Paragon/Renegade interrupt does not work? Is there a Charm/Intimidate option you can choose (I forget if there is a charm/intimidate option at the moment)?

Did the Salarian councillor die or survive? Maybe if the Salarian councillor dies, Kaidan/Ashley always dies?

The Salarian did die yes so that does look pretty bad for me when trying to convince him.

No, I don't think so.  In my new character game there is nobody to save the Councilor so Udina tried to blame it on me with his little video.  I did visit  Kaidan in the hospital and did give him the whiskey.  I also probably took the paragon interrupt to get the squad to lower their weapons.

I also lowered my gun with the Paragon interrupt so I really don't know what else I am suppose to do or if my paragon is to low or what?

Maybe you don't have a high enough reputation to open up the paragon/renegade options. A trigger depending on which dialogue choice you take in the wheel should pop up. Also, you should have a paragon/renegade dialogue option.

The whiskey is not needed, I never give it to him. Thane or Kirrahe makes no difference.

Did you visit him all three times in the hospital?

After you visit him the second time you have to turn around and click on him to open up actual dialogue with him. You can talk to him about Horizon, where he and Shep will actually talk about moving past it, his family, his promotion, and his injuries.

Yes I talked to him about all of that in the hospital cause I remember telling him to take the promotion. But ya I figured it was maybe my reputation, is there any armour that increases reputation or is there any way to raise it? I can't get to the Citadel to finish a side quest which sucks, but are there anyways to raise reputation?

Are you on an import or not? If you are, there is no reason why you shouldn't have a high enough reputation. Otherwise, without the import carryover you would have a much lower reputation.

That is the only other thing I can think of.

No unfortunately it's not an import, the closest thing is that I did make choices from the earlier games when I started this game.

Then that's most likely your problem. Your reputation isn't high enough since you don't have any data from ME2 to give you the necessary points.

If you do a ng+ you will have more than enough points.

What about Shep's passive? Have you maxed out your reputation there?

A variety of factors affect whether the person can be talked down:

- Previous romance in Mass Effect. Not romancing another character in Mass Effect 2. If Shepard did, be honest and/or apologize for it during any prior interactions in Mass Effect 3
- Repeatedly insisting that you're no longer with Cerberus during the Mars mission
- Visiting the injured Ash/Kaid at the hospital (three times: while comatose, after s/he's awakened, and when discharge is pending)
- Keeping the salarian councilor alive (either by Kirrahe or Thane sacrificing themselves to chase off Kai Leng) is very important, otherwise Udina will produce a fabricated video of Shepard assassinating the councilor
- Using a Paragon or Renegade Interrupt to tell your squad to lower their weapons will allow Shepard to make a case against Udina immediately

From wiki :

Alternatively, if you didn't interrupt and the salarian councilor was killed earlier, Udina will attempt to frame Shepard for it, making it much harder to convince them that Udina is lying. If they do not automatically decide to trust you, a Reputation check will be required, and if it's not high enough, they will instruct Udina to "get the door," at which point either you must kill the Survivor with a Renegade Interrupt or a squadmate will take the shot instead. Afterwards, the scene plays out like above, but Shepard will automatically take the shot instead and comfort Kaidan or Ashley in their final moments. However, if you were overly hostile to them they will respond in kind. For example, Ashley will say, "I hope the Reapers send you to hell."

The amount of variations on this confrontation are impressive. I had no idea. Amazing what you can miss out on by being a completionist.

I am going to sound like a complete noob and I guess I am with this game but what is ng+ and where could I check to see if I have maxed the passive for reputation and would I be able to reorganize this to increase the passive? Thanks for all your help!

New Game + is when you import an ME3 character that beat the game, when you create a new character. Basically you just start from whatever level you ended at when you beat the game and keep your weapons, mods, and armor.

Oh okay so that won't work for me right now since this is the first Mass Effect game I have played. But how would I check to see if I have maxed the passive reputation? And is there a way to reorganize skills to max this if it isn't already?

Reputation, unlike Paragon/Renegade Scores, Aren't displayed in-game.

Basically: Romance Kaidan in ME 1, Do NOT Romance anyone in ME2, and take every Paragon Choice in Dialogue with Kaidan, and purchase the gift in the hospital lobby, And he should back down. Obviously, this path works best if Shepard is Female.

i don't know if this would actually work but possibly you could start a new game and create a "save" as soon as possible. Then close the game.
Get Gibbed Editor for ME3 , select that "save" and proceed to make all the necessary choices there concerning Kaidan ( chose Kaidan on Vermire, romancing him in ME1, not romancing anyone in ME2 ... ) .
Then play the game and see how things unfold.

/edit
btw, you can romance someone in ME2 but probably need ot break off with them in ME3 , which i did twice with Jack and Miranda. But i did one game where i didn't break off with Jack and Kaidan still survived.

Reputation is just the sum of paragon and renegade + general reputation points.

In ME3 it just checks total reputation for Charm / Intimidate options, AFAIK.

You can also incress your reputaion by putting points into your class passive. Combat MAstery for soldier, Assualt Mastery for vanguard ect. Choose the botton option at rank 4 if you have not already. You can reset your powers in the medbay.

NG+, ie. "New Game Plus" is starting a new game with a character you have already completed the game with. Regarding your (Shep's) passive reputation bonus, that question was answered a post or two above.

Since neither Kirrahe or Thane is alive, you really need to build up as much reputation as you can before this conflict. Do all sidequests you can before the Citadel coup, sometimes just talking to people gives you reputation. You know the Citadel coup starts when you dock to Citadel after the genophage mission. Also make sure that during the Mars mission you only use Paragon towards Kaidan.

But to be honest, the ME3 backstory default is horrible. If you have no plans playing ME1 and ME2 for some strange reason, I suggest you go to http://www.masseffect2saves.com and download a save there you like. It will give you the backstory you need/want, and it will be a much richer experience.
