Flemeth sealed part of herself in the amulet that she gave to Hawke so that's why she didn't die.

Would Yavana be able to see as far as Flemeth? I don't know, she's not as old as she is so she wouldn't have as much power or wisdom.

She could have done something with the rest of her life force though, as she was bleeding out she could have cast blood magic in some way.

Agreed It makes me wonder why Yavana life was spared and morrigan was to be Flemeths new host

Yes please. Besides I only count games as cannon. There is no king Alistair in my Thedas, he's a Grey Warden.

So she should be an optional companion, like Garrus and Tali, only that in this case a choice completely unrelated to the character in question (which probably didn't even exist at the moment) would decide which player could have this companion? Or are you saying that the comic should be considered as completely non-relevant to the game, no matter your choices about Alistair (and Isabela, I'd guess)?
I say no to optional companion, expecially depending on choices that are completely unrelated to a certain character. If we want a Witch of the Wilds as a companion, I'm sure there are others in Thedas that could join us.

The hard canon is Alistair is King and the Warden is human

I could just see it now. All of the die-hard Morrigan fans would be pissed off that they included her sister instead of bringing Morrigan back.
Plus Yavana is dead.

We don't know if Gaider will use any of the characters who have only appeared so far in nonvideo game media, books, comics, whatever in DAI.

She was *impaled*. We're talking serious organ damage. Not just bleeding.
It's not like in the games where characters can sustain massive amounts of damage for gameplay reasons.

If there wasn`t a king Alistair, she wouldn`t have been stabbed. If there is a king Alistair, she is dead. Best to keep her far away from the games.

Yes but where characters like Yavana are concerned and whether or not she might have survived being stabbed to appear in Dragon Age 3 as a companion or NPC depends greatly upon David Gaider's canon. Final decision is his. Plus the books feature both hard and soft canon, e.g. King Alistair is soft canon. The ancient slumbering dragons and existence of Yavana are hard canon elements.

I love Morrigan, really. She's by far my favorite Li in all time. However...

According to Yavana, Flemeth trained several of her daugthers as "witches of the wild". Not saying Yavana is trustworthy, just has very little reason to lie in that matter; nobody cares that she got a "witch of the wild" diploma from the university of Flemeth. Not saying Flemeth is some great force for good, either. My point however:

There's avery distinct possibility that Morrigan was bull****ting the warden, to get Flemeth out of the way and the OGB solely in her possession to raise as she sees fit. It's absolutly a morrigan thing to do, that's part of the reason I like her. Posted Image

Meh, even if Alistair doesn't come along and stab her, than the DAverse equivelent of captain Kirrrahe can come along and stab her. Heck, even warden or drunk alistair will have motivation to go look for his FATHER! Most of the grey wardens are spending the next century in post-blight after-party; he got the time to spare. What else is he gonna do? The only alternative is having fun times with Nathaniel Howe in the deep roads, reminscing about that time he killed his father.

Imo, Yavana is just a less interesting version of Morrigan. So, I'd rather having Morrigan with me again. Bringing Yavana back from the death, or magically heal her then make her your companion seems odd and forced to me. Hope they come up with good mages companions in DA: I though. DA 2's were terribly annoying (Bethany was the only acceptable one, but she can't be romanced, and not available most of the game :\\)

There is no hard canon, except the one you make yourself.

Alistair is dead in all of my playthroughts, except one. So Yavanna can easily be a companion (however unlikely it is, as we already seen the companions leaks and she was not amongst them). Not to mention that game takes place in Orlei and she is in Antiva.

I am interested in having her come back as a companion. Maybe make her very different from Morrigan so that people don't get the two mixed up.

Would be interesting having another witch along in the group but it would feel somewhat like a cop out, trying to give us Morrigan 2.0. Yavana is also a little dead..

They could always say that a spirit/demon saved her like Anders and Wynne but I would prefer if Velanna, Finn or Sketch were the mage companions

Is death even a thing in the Dragon Age universe? Can people actually die or do they just pass out for a while like in the Elder Scrolls universe?
