This is a new series by the sci fi channel premiering Monday 15th April 2013 9pmET United States (Which this time of year is also my country's time Trinidad and Tobago) and 8pm central United States.

http://www.defiance.com

I alread dont like this sci fi, its based on aliens who solar systems of world are dying and have spent thousands of years in cryo sleep going to earth, when they arrived in 2030 some crap happened and screwed them up and screwed up the earth.

The earth has been unintensionally terraform in the 2030 even with earth orbit littered which broken ark ships.

There are several alien races on the planet and this series is based on one town in of course(not surprising) the united states of america which refuses to change with the plant and they scavenge both old earth tech and the alien tech.

My critiism so far is the whole concept, that its based where humans are primitive compared to the aliens and its a survival or defiance thing(which is what the show is called.

Next most of the alien are caucasian human in 'cosplay' which I understand as its low budget anyway, and the alien that are not humans in cosplay look like wolfs and hairy creatures.

Their cultures are most offensive, which makes me think this is a space aged game of thrones, alien that have cultures similar to roman culture, tribal european culture etc, I haven't read all the alien races and their cultures yet.

I have seen many american sci fi series and I dont like almost all of them, they are all the same and nothing truly new or uniques, I hope to make my own sci fi not to show on tv to show online.

A sci fi which will be very graphic in violence and sexuality, also homosexuality and different religions including non religion.

Also I want my sci fi to be as realistic as posible with the technology and nature, which mean absolutely no sound in the vacum of space other than background music.

I know a lot of you wont like my opinions, I was not obscene nor intentionally insulting, there would be no point posting if I dont post what I truly think!
So far this sci fi seems to be a typical alien invasion human survival last stand, caucasion cosplay alien sci fi.

I would watch the series to see what its about and make future criticism of this series!

Odd you'd make a thread for something you dont like.

Playing the game currently which ties into the series. Its damn fun. There's currently a mission arc in there which leads right into the first show episode. (Or at least the first 15 minutes of the episode, which you can preview currently.

I think you're wrong about the Town though. During the Battle of Defiance (which the town was named after) Humans and the Votan decided to rebel against their respective sides and team together to save lives. Defiance, the town, is a melting pot of all 8 races learning to live together.

I wouldn't count humans out either as primitive. Some of the best tech in the game so far comes from humans (specifically one named Von Bach). The races all feel on equal footing to me.

The game is Buy to Play, like Guild Wars. Buy the base game, but there are no monthly fees. There will be a few purchasable expansions per year that will be optional. You can currently get a 'Season Pass' for the next year's updates, but I'm holding off until I've played the game a bit more.

I'm playing it on PC but its also out for PS3 and Xbox.

All you need to know is that it's airing on "Syfy". They'll kill it as soon as the video game tanks and the game publisher pulls out.

so its an online game, and as I dont have my own internet on my pc for personal reason beyond my control, I wont bother to buy the game!

I just finished reading about the aliens species, while humans in reality and in sci fi have varied cultures and personalities, each of the alien races( as I have seen in most sci fi) have only one culture per species,
catithans are a space aged roman empire, they have a complex language, women server men they think no other alien is more beautiful than them and they are very liberal when it comes to sex!

The iratheints are simply a tribal strong yet peaceful nature loving species the indogenes is just this sci fi's version of the borg, they are cyborgs which implant best suited for what ever career they chose, if they are awake they should be working.

with humans in reality and in sci fi there is no ONE CULTURE,humans have varied culture and views and nations.

What I said about the aliens of this sci fi is true for The Mass Effect trilogy, the krogan were somewhat varied yet the same, agressive and only want to survive.

I now see this post, if you saying there is not point in the online game i agree with you, games based on series are usually not good enough to last.

I really do have better things to spend my money on than the defiance game, such as gta v in september which I hope wil  be released for pc as with the last 4 games.

I'm quite curious for it. Haven't played the game yet though. Probably gonna wait with that untill I've seen the show (partly maybe).

I am however, very thrilled that jaime Murray is in it x)

Only downside is that I heard they were going to cancel some other shows to raise money for this one, which I find kind of sad.

Except that SyFy has already started work on the second season and Trion (the game publisher) has a proven track record of sticking with games. That they are able to keep RIFT on a subscription model in a world of F2P games is pretty impressive.

Its far more likely the game will outlast the show than the reverse. But we'll get at least two seasons out of it.

Sci-fi TV shows tend have unpredictable and often short lifespans. Doctor Who is the only exception, being the longest running sci-fi series. Defiance doesn't look like it'll last for a long time. Heh, if it bombs the game will probably end up F2P anyway.

I played the game in Alpha (read: a few months ago) and just didn't see what it had to offer. Character creation was very lacking, the class/build system was very shallow, and there was no end game in sight. There's no gear to shoot for, no sandbox features, no role playing support. I didn't try the competitive shooter part, but if that's he entire point...eh.

I quit Rift because Trion focused too much on end game "hardcore" raiding and gear grinds, but I don't feel like picking up Defiance because they focused too little on those. I honestly don't know what the point of the game is. If it's just to run through a main story and occasionally group, then I'd rather play SWTOR.

The actual gameplay was fun enough, but without a better class system, advancing your character just isn't eventful enough. One minute in and I'm a guy with a sniper rifle and one ability. Twenty hours in I'm...a guy with a sniper rifle and one ability that cools down a few seconds quicker now.

I absolutely love sci-fi, but even if this gameplay had a Firefly or Mass Effect skin around it, I still don't think I'd play it.  I just don't see what they expect you to do.

SyFy is good at killing shows regardless of 'commitments'. But I do concede that it will probably go for two seasons.

I'll admit I am interested in the game,  looking around at more reviews and the game gets stable.

The game is very stable on PC (and I believe PS3) but XBox has had some issues they've been very apologetic about. If you're going Xbox I'd wait a bit.

Some sort of an unholy mariage of TV show and an MMO is an interesting combination for sure. Recon I try this out at some point. Finding it disencouraging the game is multiplatform tho:l

Up until 4 weeks ago I played the game and out of frustration I just quit. The game itself is not bad but it gets vrery tired very fast doing the same weekly contracts and dailies.  New content hasn't even appeared for almost a year and it's supposed to tie into the TV show but nothin much seems to  happen.

I could go on about the official forums and where you can be banned for random reasons that are never explained to you. I made a joke about giving away my game character and that has since led to a perma ban on the official forums. The moderation for them is all over the place..

Trion spent a sh!tload of money on the game when it was brand new to get it out there but then sacked nearly everyone and from what I have gathered is that now there is just a handful of people looking after the game. it is in a word a total clusterfvck....

So 4 weeks ago I just quit, removed the game. and haven't looked back.

That the TV show has been given a 3rd season is somewhat amazing. Now if  Trion really does not want to look after the game why don't they sell the IP to a company that can look after it and make new content on a regular basis.

Look at SWTOR. It's been out for years and yet we get new content often.  It's also fun to play most of the time...

Anyway rant over...

My initial feelings about this show and it's game were utter disgust. I did give the show a try and was greeted with the typical SyFy excrement they pass off as Science Fiction.

Mediocre premise with a few decent actors and suitable makeup/FX. Tolerable, seen better and worse.

Yeah I feel about the same. I don't dislike the TV show but neither is it one of my favourites. But for me season 2 was much better then season 1 and most people tend to sway between the two saying that the 1st season was the better one..

I hope this year they improve as they got renewed for a 3rd season and that starts in June.
