Great documentary on youtube on Monsanto, though I'm sure you've seen it, but those that haven't, try googling "The world according to Monsanto" full version.

Companies and corporations are about making money, in general terms. Now, you can make money by doing bad things. No doubt about that.  Manipulating the environment, manipulating economics & business playing field, manipulating our future, in a direction that is not in the interest of the people. Exxon, Monsanto, Google are just some examples of that.

However, the people, including customers and consumers, are largely happily oblivious of these things. Or don't care, in the usual selfish fashion. These companies do bad things, yes, but they don't fail their own customers. And that's what that award is about. It's not a crook award. It's a customer feedback award.
A lot of commentators here, don't seem to understand this.
Now, I've never voted for EA in that competition, just saying.

EA didn't say that, they gave other reasons than homophobia. I interpreted that addiction21 said that due to his: “Stay classy gamers.", comment.

Sorry that's a more general statement of anyone taking and using this poll (or most every internet poll) seriously. Maybe I put it in the wrong place.

It's fine. It needed more context due to following your link. Though I'm curious; do you mean serious as in voting for EA over others or thinking this poll will make a change in EA's policies?

Honestly? Both and anyone (which they will) bring this poll up as some sort of evidence support whatever argument they have. Like Dragon Age 3 should have the features this person want because EA won this poll.

A lot of that going around.

But I'm just a shill and I support the opinion because they pay my salary! ^_^

Utterly stupid. People forced out of their homes is, apparently, of less importance than the launch problems of SimCity and the dubious business practices of a luxury product manufacturer. Sigh, practically the definition of 'first world problems'.

Seems to be a lot of that going around. I thought this thread was about whether EA deserved the title of "Worst Company in America", not "EA is a bad company".

Not even close to what is being said. Work on your reading comprehension and come back later.

Of course. After all you work for the company that you are proud of and they pay your salary.

Sweet, I'm just a shill!

Thanks! ^_^

At least EA grants you the place to vent about it (these forums).

But then, we're all about silenting dissent (which is why this thread is still open and whatnot).

Only when you disagree with them Allan.

I like the part where he says the Origin is a great succes and a good competitor for Steam.:P And of course that they won this award because all the homophobes voted for them.

He neglects to mention the large amount of contempt people have for Origin. The only reason those "satisfied customers" have it installed on their PC's is because they want to play EA games and can't do it without that program installed. It's mandatory. What other options do they have?

Yes, I would recommend that documentary too for anyone interested in Monsanto - I remember watching it a while back. Monsanto usually ends up being mentioned even in food/agriculture-related documentaries that aren't even specifically focused on them such as Food, Inc. or King Corn. It's like all roads eventually lead to them. :P

There was also one story that was quite interesting. I don't remember which program it was, but I remember that it aired on PBS and focused on how Monsanto sues farmers and forces them into using their seeds (sometimes driving them into bankruptcy). They followed one farmer's fight against Monsanto in particular, and I think it was the Bowman case specifically (been a while, so I'm not 100% sure it was him): http://abcnews.go.co...73#.UWSX3T-4rZE.

Ah we don't think your a shill Allan. At least I don't. /brownie points

But understand I hate some of the arguments people are making. They are pretty.. loopy.

For instance, if I were to be a douche to everyone, constantly sabotaging their emotional stability for no apparent reason other than personal amusement and/or sadism, that would make me bad, correct? Or at least not good.

But if someone sad to me, "You're a bad person!" And I said, "YOU HAVE NO SENSE OF WHAT BAD IS! PERSON X KILLED MILLIONS! THEY ARE SO MUCH WORSE THAN I EVER COULD BE! AND YOU ARE PISSING AND MOANING ABOUT SOMEONE HURTING YOUR DAMN FEELINGS! People are starving and you are whining about a little inconveniece!" /hyperbole

Would that make me less of a douche? Doubtful. If anything it'd make me more of a douche for bringing up people's hardships  I'd otherwise ignore if it weren't for the sheer convenience of justifying my douchery. It's really not a good argument.

I will have to respectfully disagree with the central tenet of your comment. I read Moore's PR statement and it doesn't sound like "we acknowledge that we did wrong" at all. It sounds like "we acknowledge people feel like we did wrong". And whilst someone could come and claim I am talking semantics, for me that is a very definite difference, fundamentally so in fact.

And the entire tone of his little speech reads like "u mad bro?" between the lines.

Ask yourself if you would have still felt the same way if the author was "Allan Schumacher" instead of "Peter Moore, COO of Electronic Arts."

EA is vilified by many people, and are immediately going to go into reading any article with a particular slant (I won't claim to be objective in the matter.  I don't think anyone really is in this case).  I will obviously read into it in a particular slant.

I can understand how you could read the blogpost the way you did.  Can you understand how I can read the blogpost  the way I did?

I don't care who it is. If you wrote up that blog post I would give you **** for it, Allan. I have nothing against Peter Moore or anyone else who works for EA. I miss the guy, honestly. I wish he still worked for Microsoft. The E3 events would be more entertaining.

I'm quite glad to see how tame this is compared to a discussion I saw in a Facebook group about this. It was... a free-for-all with no survivors.

Do you know what "worst" means? Do you understand the context its being used in for this poll?

Its not about who is bad. It is about who is the worst and putting the maker of a luxury product over those that do kill, ruin lives, or destroy the environment is sad.

Trying to rationalize it worse.

True. If a company that creates products meant to entertain and make people happy needs to even be compared to those that result in injury, harm or even death, then they are doing an incredibly terrible job of managing their brand name and PR.

I find this post is more a reflection on the gaming community and the gaming culture, to be perfectly honest.  (Shill opinion, please feel free to completely disregard at your own convenience to prevent cognitive dissonance)

This gets noteriety the same way a guy filing an FTC complaint for ME3 does (i.e. people laugh at us gamers).  IMO it is a net negative to the perception of the gaming community and industry as a whole.  Though I wouldn't be able to say much.

I agree that Moore shouldn't have bothered responding, since it gives some the idea of legitimacy, something I wouldn't have bothered with.  I don't find the poll particularly meaningful and in fact proclaimed "Defending champs! \\o/" when I saw it.  It's an online poll, and unless I can have any sort of reasoanble assurances that the population voting cannot be influenced by outside biases and ensures a representative sample of the US population, it is not something that will ever mean anything to me.  Of the people NOT mentioned in Moore's bullet list, it's the same people venting frustration on the BSN (which I have no issue with) effectively voting in multiple places.  I suspect that what I would learn from the motivations of these people voting is not any different than I would read here.  Gamers are organized, typically quite technical, and something like this is going to get additional visibility (which I'd say Moore's blogpost helped to do) to this type of audience.

Lets be honest, in this thread (and numerous others) there's no shortage of allegations that we'll just shut people up and silent dissenting opinion.  Yet this thread has gone on for some time, and you're even talking directly with an EA employee (maybe that's what people wanted).  Some posts that nail us to the wall were even edited for clarity by a moderator.

Of course, not forgeting that all the while these people that hate EA so much end up spending so much time on an EA message board.  Always an interesting observation in my opinion.

Regardless, thread is pissing me off now so it's likely best to take my leave of it, lest I start trying to argue simply to win.

This would be a better argument.. if the whole board wasn't full of luxury product producers.

Image IPB

Apple-Luxury
Ticketmaster-Luxury
Comcast-Mostly Luxury
Carnival-Luxury
Dish-Luxury
DirectTV-Luxury
Best Buy-Mostly Luxury

And you could debate that the airlines are luxury because for private purposes while air travel is convenient, you sure don't NEED it.

So a solid chunk of the competitors were luxury good/service providers/producers.. but EA should be ignored as it is a luxury good producer.. These arguments just get better and better.
