Now I'm curious, how many of you would want Shepard back in a ME4?

I haven't been browsing these forums for that long so I don't know if this has been asked before but I recently started to replay the trilogy and it reminded me that I can't imagine ME without Shepard really.

He/she is the bridge builder, that brings people together, that fights for the greater cause despite all odds.
I never played a female Shep so I can't comment on that, but I think Mark Meer did a great job of portraying a calm, strong and decisive Shepard.

It will probably never happen but I feel a trilogy doesn't do justice to Shepard really. It's wasted potential, never change a winning team I say. The ending would have to be retconned perhaps, but I would be fine with that.
Besides, Shepard rose from the dead before.

I think there should be another game with Shepard. I don't feel like he's got a decent ending yet, so retcon, re-write, making one particular ending (destroy) cannon...etc...I would love more Shepard. If nothing else maybe Bioware will do another series with Mark Meer as the male voice actor for the main character. ^_^

I would like Shepard back if it would fit with the story. However, much like a return of Nolan and his cast to the Dark Knight universe for a 4th go around, now that these stories have been told and closed the way they have, it would feel cheap and forced. It would be like a Jack n Hurley Lost spinoff, Battlestar Galactice Season 5, or a 4th Matrix.

New stories in the same universe cool. But after the way ME3 was written, it really is a series close.

To be fair though, if Bioware/EA wanted they could have stretched this franchise into several more games. Each "game" could have been filled to the brim with content and made into 2 or even 3 games each. I think with the save carryover mechanic though Bioware is smart to move to another trilogy for the next ME, since it will be a new console generation. If console generations were 10 or 12 years this Shepard trilogy could have easily been 6 or more games.

Always room for more Shep/Ash Shep/Miranda content..... although the general failure of ME3 as a whole and the compete epic failure of the very concept of the endings. combined with  their lackluster treatment of LI's as what seems a general policy does not give me much confidence in the quality of Bioware games in  atm whether or not " ME4" would be another Shepard story or not and that feeling carries over to DAI atm as well

No, thanks.

I want new hero with completely new plot separated from Reapers, Leviathans and such, just set in my favourite universe.

yes but not as main. just give him a cameo as well as the other characters to tie up more of the many lose ends from this ending, and then i would buy me4 just to see these lose ends tied up so i can replay shepards story again. i would miss tali and everybody too much, but i want shep to just retire and settle down with his li, for me tali. so i hope he at least makes an appearance.

I'd rather not have Shepard back for several reasons.

If Shepard was to be the main star:
Assuming ME4 happens after the trilogy, I would not want to see him/her back since only 1 out of 3 my saves had Shepard survive (and the survivor had gone insane at that point). Sure the ending could be retconed, but the writers said they wouldn't do that and I've come to terms with the endings.
Assuming ME4 happens before the trilogy, then Shepard would not be at the same level as in the other games. A lot of his/her character building would not have happened yet.

If Shepard was a cameo:
Assuming ME4 happens after the trilogy, same reason as above.
Assuming ME4 happens before the trilogy, similar reasons.
And also, I doubt the writers (no matter how good they are) could keep MY Shepard's personality since there are simply so many variants: Is he/she pro aliens or pro humans. Does he/her support Cerberus? Why is Shepard the way he/she is?

Also: Many Shepards did not import properly into ME3, some of them switched skin colors, facial structures and such. I doubt that problem could be fixed in ME4, unless they made all Shepards have the default face or had him/her keep their helmets on.

Finally, I'm not all that fond of all my Shepard's. Most of them have finished their stories. The only one I might want back is Molly, and she's probably gone bonkers by now.

As much as I dislike the ending, Shepard's story is done. I'd rather they focus on something else. It would be nice to explore other aspects of the galaxy that we haven't really delved into yet.

sheppards tale needed to end at ME3, not as 3 choices, none the less he needed to die, to leave his gender still in the air among other things, still it will be sad not being able to upload my mass effect 3 file into mass effect 4, would have made it so much better

I wouldn't want to see Shep in ME4. His story is over. Much as I like the character it's time to move on to a new protagonist.

Who knows...maybe the new protagonist will be a Volus so they can keep Mark Meer as the main voice....<LOL>.

I never actually liked Shepard as a character, neither Paragon or Renegade suited my tastes, Renegade is at times too much of a douchebag, and Paragon was a boyscout. He wasn't very well written overall. So with that said, I'm very much looking forward to the new protagonist.

Nah. My Sheps are dead, and I'm ok with that. A cameo would be alright, but I'm cool meeting a new main character in the next game.

Fine either way as long as the next game takes place after the current trilogy. Be it with shep or a new char fine with either.

My Shep is dead. A fresh set of characters would be the best approach.

HOWEVER

I would welcome the idea of having an me3 import and you happen to find your old Shep in Liaras history box in a random ruin. That would be cool. You don't get to play your old Shep though. He/she would be long gone.

- Enter ruin
- Find old Shep "holocron" (I forget what its called in ME)
- Queue music!
- Dudi du du du, dudi du du du and off you go

The only way this could be done would be with even more substantial damage to an already severely damaged continuity. So no thanks.

Also, if ME4 is to be anything resembling an RPG, it would open up the possibility of playing as another race. Maybe a bit like DA:O? Play as any one of the council races? There's serious potential for awesome in that.

No. Sheps story is over. The only point in bringing Shepard back would be to continue Sheps story, which would screw continuity for anyone who didn't choose high EMS Destroy, POST EC, That may have been the most popular ending (allegedly) but there were a lot of people who didn't choose it, so for a large section of the existing fan base the point of bringing Shep back becomes...pointless

New Story, new protagonist. Shepard isn't ME; rich story, well fleshed out characters you care about, cool powers and choosing your path - thats ME for me.

So KOTOR 1 and 2 aren't anything resembling RPG? Lot of races but only human option for player here.
