... and send Javik to go assist Riley.

"Javik, go save their asses!"

But during the "oh no they can't be raised" bit, Shep says "what about the Prothean?"

And when you talk to Riley, Shep says "Thank our friend from the last war."

I wonder if the lines were recorded before Javik was named?

I've never taken Javik on that mission so I never knew the lines existed. But sure, it's possible his name was changed. James' surname changed from Sanders to Vega during the game's production, it even gets a nod in dialogue with him.

Omg i played this mission last night, and for once with Javik, and i wondered why they didn't say his name!

Just one of them things i reckon, but i think you're right that they probably didn't have a name at that point! otherwise i can't think why they wouldn't just say "What about javik?"

Obviously, they first wanted to name him "Prothy the Prothean".

I never knew that...but I like it.  They should have totally made James Vega the son of Anderson and Sanders....

He is the one character I have never taken on the mission. I will on my next playthrough.

Javik was already recorded into the game since day one. They made him Day 1 DLC, so it made sense that he would have specific lines during missions already pre-set (I.E. Sur'Kesh). It didn't make a lot of sense as to why he was DLC, though. Money, perhaps?

More like his mission assets were not finished when the game achived gold status.

I imagine Bio had some flexibility in when they finished Javik.. But day 1 DLC has been EA policy for years. If Javik hadn't been DLC they would have needed something else.

Makes me wonder what the original plan was.

Yes, very strange. Any other missions people know of where Javik is referred to as "the Prothean" or otherwise not by name?

I got those lines for the first time yesterday.

Javik's response was typical: "A useless gesture."

That mission has some bugs. If you wear a headset or no helmet on your Shepard the N7 Breather helmet is blue with red lights and dosen't have a glass eyepiece. The Turian you speak to at the begining of the mission says a few words but dosen't open his mouth. Too bad none of this stuff will ever be fixed.

This being the single mission where lines where recorded while Javik's name was unknown seems very unlikely. Maybe Shepard just is mocking Javik a bit, as the Prothean almost never refers to anyone by name?

As far as I know, all other squadmates are named ("Thank EDI" etc.)  So that seems unlikely.  Kind of odd.

Maybe they thought nobody would take Javik or this mission (since it's on a MP map) was a late addition.

Javik has one of the better exchanges on that mission...

Javik: No movement. They're cowards.

Ashley: There's a difference between caution and cowardice.

Javik: Not in how angry they make me.

Hackett calls him the Prothean...
Garrus calls him the Prothean if you recruit Javik after Palaven...
Glyph calls him the Prothean after Thessia...
James calls him the Prothean on Thessia...

Javik regularly calls people Asari, Turian, Quarian, Krogan, Human etc...
