The traditional RPG mechanics of Dragon Age would lend themelves well to Dragon Age, I imagine. I'd like to be able to select a quota of skills and spells and attributes and then be thrown into an arena. Problem is, it will be hell to balance, it is a (short-lived) gimmick and one that might steal resources from the single player. In reality, a MMORPG like WOW will end up doing a vastly better job than any multiplayer and will last longer as well.

I just ask that they don't force multiplayer into the single player. Multiplayer completely ruins the plot. You can't pay attention to a story when there are other human beings about.

This was a long time ago, but they said IF they did MP it'd be more of the Baldur's Gate 2 style. Which means optional co-op, maybe your friend can control one of the companions, or even import their own Inquisitor into your game and is one of your soldiers? I think that sounds really cool.

This is the MP i'm hoping for with DA:I. Being able to play throught he game with a friend but it being completely optional, no feeling of it being forced down your throat if MP isn't your thing.
The horde mode of ME3 was fun too, but it really got boring quite fast.
As for resources and time.. I really do think an MP component would get their own resources and added time to do this. If the MP component wasn't included then i don't think the money would be granted or time would be granted to SP. So basically, SP won't take a hit from MP at all. That is of course if they don't do it like ME3 did, which was terrible.

I'll take co-op multiplayer like Neverwinter Nights. Better yet if there could be a toolset and DM client.

I don't want to see shallow brainless arena multiplayer just "because there has to be MP".

Or a different idea those "agents" our Inquisitor is sending on missions are actually MP missions. Imagine if there was a toolset and there was unlimited amount of possible MP missions you could play co-op with your friends? I'd love that idea as well.

The deciding factor should be what is gained from having MP, what to consider is the fact The Reapers, Geth, Cerberus, and Collectors threatened everyone, not just Shepard and the Normandy. It's not like the Demons, Blood Mages, Darkspawn, & Undead really want to kill everyone? Oh nevermind, it looks like we will be getting multiplayer...

Anyways, In DAO we were presented with the Darkspawn Chronicles, so in DA2 (where I normally played a rogue) I asked the question what if Hawke had died fighting the Orge while escaping Ostagar? What would the game have been like if it were up to Bethany and Carver to save Kirkwall? With those questions I stopped playing my normal rogue and tried play throughs as a male warrior (named Carver) and female mage (named Bethany)

As for Mass Effect, I normally played a male soldier, because I also played other FPS, and the easy answer was if any other skills were needed, the crew-mates were available. But in Multiplayer, I saw amazing skills and powers displayed by the other classes, so I began to play other classes and realized that ripping apart an enemy with the power of my mind was just a much fun as shooting them. The best part was to see the detail, in developing all the classes to the point where I no-longer needed guns (enough fire and electricity will kill anything). But without MP I would have stopped playing Mass Effect 3 and waited for DLC, having never played any other class. I'm glad MP was there to give me a reason to experience first-hand what my crew-mates brought to the fight for myself, as opposed to DA where you can switch control to team-mates.

Another way to look at it is: What was gained from multiplayer in Baldur's Gate? Exactly, Wise & Powerful friends are a good thing!

I agree with you on the  variety that MP  allows for players to experience the setting from 'another pair of eyes' so to speak. Granted those eyes are incredibly shallow if MP is only concerned with combat, but look at the sheer number or kits ME 3 MP had, and the numerous strategies they brought to the table.

MP can be much more than a simple horde mode (and I hope it is if it is included) but even at its most fundemental level, MP brings three very important aspects to the table (at least in my opinion).

1. It's a way to enjoy the game with friends. This one is obvious; it is caled Multiplayer after all; but for me, the most memorable moments I have when playing a game (if it has multiplayer) is the epic and /or hilarious moments that can occur as you and your party finally take down that impossible boss, or the sense of comradery you have when everything clicks and you are operating as a sinle unit, covering and supporting each other. Others no doubt have vastly different opinions on the matter, but for me, nothing can top the possibility of  experiencing something with others.

2. It provides a stable, quick and easy method of testing and perfecting classes, powers, builds, and characters. A controlled environment to try things out, to experience gameplay elements that  are unfamiliar.

3. Being able to 'see the world' through the 'eyes' of a character or creature that; in all likelyhood; would not be considered usable for a playable element other than a one shot DLC or small part of the narrative. Being able to freely play as things like Sylvains, or Werewolves, or Awakened Darkspawn; these are examples of the alternatives MP can bring to the table. Here the narritive doesn't have to be bogged down for three hours explaining why we have a  pary comprised of a Qunari Templar, Werewolf, Sylvain, and Dalish Mage.

So the solution is a shunted, forced in MP where story and character control, some of the biggest elements in an RPG, are abandoned for a bang, bang, shoot 'em up combat fest? I'd rather forgoe the fantasy party, then. Because at least when that fantasy party is in my head, it can have some semblance of character value and interaction.

Why does a RPG MP need to have story? thats what the SP campaign is for, dont get me wrong it be nice but it aint essential, arena battles and id be a happy chappy, but then your talking about balancing classes an such an well a whole new ball game aint it.

I liked the idea behind the me3 mp, i dont think they pulled it off mind and i dont think it reached the potential it was capable of but there was nice vision there, hopefully they stick with that make it a Bioware sort of thing and enhance it to its fullest potential

I never said that MP interaction was the best possible solution, only that it was the easiest. Believe me I would love to play SP and have interactions with the Grand Oak and recruit him into my party, but I realize that my desire for a Sylvan companion is probobly not in the majority of the fanbase, and as such I wouldn't expect Bioware to spend time with the narritive exploring something that would only appeal to a very niche audience.

Multiplayer does, I will admit, abandon story and character control to an extent, the degree largely depends on how the game is built. I just see MP more as a way to explore and have the ability to play as those things; which would likely never see the light of day in SP. Sure the narritve quality is sacrifice, especially if the MP is combat heavy, but the trade off is that you do get to play the game as one of those things.

And that is just one area of MP I personally find interesting, the game mode offers lots of alternatives and possibilities that just are not possible in SP, especially given the direction Bioware wants to take the narritive.

I think to speculate on the classes in DA3, it's safer to remember that in ME3 everything was based on skill trees, and proper investment of skill points. In DA2 there are Talents and Attributes, and then in DAO there are also Skills and Specializations. Then upgrades of skills work differently as well, If you play both ME and DA series, I won't need to get into the details, all you need to know is that leveling up within a skill tree in DA2 unlocks a new ability, as opposed to ME2 & ME3 where it only improves an existing ability.

That being the case, what I'd expect some classes for DA MP might look like:

(Common) Warrior/Rogue/Circle-Mage

(Un-Common) Templar/Assassin/Apostate

(Rare) Seeker/GreyWarden-Scout/Keeper/Arcane-Warrior

(Ultra-Rare) Reaver/GreyWarden-Knight/1st Enchanter/Antivan-Crow

I think Blood Mage will become a playable class in later DLC for MP similar to how the Geth needed to be unique in ME3 multiplayer

Now we get to the issue of Weapons and Armor. In ME3 every class got access to every weapon-type, and with no class weapon restrictions, resulting in the game had better flow and options. Personally I hope class exclusive weapons go away, but that means Warriors will have access to staffs and Mages will have access to Sword&Shield (Which makes even less sense) It makes more sense that weapons get more strict with Attributes Required (example: Needs 20+ STR and 20+ STA) and adopting the unethical (Adds % Based on Level) properties. Or they can just not include weapons and armor in MP, but why would they do that?

Lastly the life/death Mechanics are very different between ME and DA, where ME gives a barrier and shield on top of conventional health, and DA has a completely separate resource for actions either stamina or mana.

Don't even get me started on Thermal Clips!

You can strip out the RPG bits of ME3 and left with a decent shooter. Dragon Age will probably be more quest best. Most non shooter RPG MP's are.

I would love to see a ME3 like MP for DA Inquisition. To be honest, it seems like they have been setting up for that anyway.

As for a Class/Kit creation...

QUNARI Archer.

Skills:

Piercing Arrow Assuming a tree that lets you spec for damage or spec for some sort of armor debuff.

Volley: AOE attack  I am invisioning a tree where you can speck for AOE size or a damage buff.

Leap: Really some sort of get out of combat ability.

Well i was one of the ones who was dissapointed that MP was not included from the start in Origins. As a fan of Neverwinter Nights the multiplayer was one of the cooler aspects of making a level and then playing it with your friends, thats why the Origins Toolkit didn't do as well as Bioware hoped, you couldn't play the levels you spent ages making with your friends!

Dragon Age has a huge oportunity to be a fun challenging multiplayer experience. Yes it will be very different from the core game, but if you can run into a dungeon with friends and cut through darkspawn or what have you it could be a really fun component. I learned my lesson in ME3, when i first heard it had MP i went on the forums and was all "oh woe is me, you have taken valuable resources away from single player, this is a terrible idea OMG why did you do it!" and basically made a complete ****** of myself acting like a 5 year old. But i've learned a lot since then, and frankly i'm a lot more level headed. ME3 MP turned out to be a LOT of fun, me and firends played hours and hours of it, i can imagin a cool dungeon crawling experience with 3 or even 4 friends if they change up the party system a bit for MP, and do not worry about taking recources away from SP, that simply is not how things work.

If there is a MP and it turns out to be poor, then the people who did not want MP have not lost anything, if it turns out to be good then they still don't have to play it but others who do want MP have gained something, and that is always a good thing, everybody wins, nobody looses.

Backed by the power of Frostbite, a Dragon Age: Inquisition multiplayer mode has tremendous potential. I've echoed this sentiment many times. The setting and events of Inquisition also beg for multiplayer attention in the best way possible.

Speaking generally to the OP though, I have to say I'm not a big fan of Class and Race oversaturation. I can't really explain it, but there's a contextually sensitive break point with variety where I can't stop rolling my eyes at what is little more than a novelty.

Give me the four basic races, the three basic classes with the nine basic specializations. I don't need a Treant Leafstormer of Minotaur Hornmauler. Sorry.

I don't want multiplayer in this game.. mainly because a lot of COD players will buy it just for the multiplayer. And most of those players say and do alot of things that are hurtfull to others :(

It's been awhile since I last played multiplayer ME3 (on PS3), but I remember really wanting a mute option when most of the randoms used their mic's (whether it be just talking or static/background noises/breathing).  Please, EA/Bioware, include a mute button for people's mic's in DA:I multiplayer.
