"That runaway chariot had one other important element as well: it's a boss fight. Bosses no longer stay at the end of levels, waiting for you to end their lives. They set out to hunt you, and fight you, when you least expect it, forcing you to stay alert lest you die from an unexpected strike."

Haven't heard this anywhere else. Sites like Gamespot, OXM and IGN have a tendancy to make such lies. The footage wasn't even shown to them personally but if this is true then that would be awesome. I'd imagine there will be limits as to where they go but it adds randomness to the whole experience and means you might not have a chance to prepare.

I just hope I luck out and we don't get any giant spiders.

First playthrough of Dark Souls I was terrified, just waiting for giant insects to show up.

"We haven’t really created any drama; we don’t have a story to tell. Instead we try to give the underlying setting and that’s it. We want players to role-play and create their own story. You don’t have to go to the last boss. It’s more what you want the story to become, by giving players the options to adjust the high level settings that we provide."

There better be Catarina armor. Or at least some other vegetable-themed armor.

But yeah, can't wait and all that. The game looks delicious.

So true So true.

The GrandDaddy (or at least i like to think so) of Dark Souls, EpicNameBro has released his Dark Souls 2 Discussion Video

Might be worth a look if you're interested.

I'm very much looking forward to Witcher 3 and Project Eternity.

But, if all pans out, this is easily the Game of the Year 2014 for me.

Well, it does seem fears of a contested sequel were unfounded. Take heed Bioware. Game of the Year here.

GiantDad (aka The Legend) would like a word with you...

He's even got his own song.

Yet I'm still uneasy and not at all so hyped as I could because they left director of Souls games' Miyazaki behind. Why in heaven's name did they do that, I do wonder and feel bad because of this...

YouTube "Giantdad dark souls" and you'll see how big GiantDad has become. Anyway new details on Dark Souls 2:

http://www.godisagee...2-offline-mode/

There's an offline mode (still) and some content will carry over from Dark Souls 1 such as equipment and covenants (Sunbro covenant better be in it).

http://www.eurogamer...riginals-spirit

Eurogamer confirms that bosses now roam freely (presumably with limits as I can't imagine that chariot rider showing up in a small dungeon to get you). Multiplayer is server based.

http://www.examiner....etails-revealed

The PC is the lead developing platform. From Software confirms that the PC version this time will be good this time around.

I won't be wasting my time on another of these games until From Software realizes that not having a pause function just makes their games even more of a chore to play then they already are.

An action-RPG shouldn't have a pause function unless you hold Dragon Age 2 as the standard for action-RPG's?

What.  Then don't play the game, Demon Souls, nor Dark souls needed a function of "pause", it would take away from the game, like having a pause menu in Dead Space 1, I would feel like it would lose on the atmosphere.

A strategic pause a la Dragon Age is clearly not what I'm talking about?

I can assure you that it wouldn't. And I don't remember much about Dead Space (besides it being a bad game) but I'm pretty sure it had a pause menu (correct me if I'm wrong).

I assure you that it would.

And no Dead Space has never had a pause menu. Unless you count the start/ESC key but the actual inventory didn't pause the game.

The start/ESC key is exactly what I'm talking about. I don't mind at all if the inventory is in real time, but I'd like to have some way to pause the game in case something urgent requires my attention. It's merely a matter of convenience.

There is always sitting at a bonfire and if something THAT urgent arises, so what if you loose a bit of progress in a video game?

Did you find the game appealing otherwise?

Because this sounds as if you don't get to enjoy Dark Souls' strong points. They all have something to do with making the player care for the game, that's something you can't do with making the gaming experience care-free.

Time does not in actual life ever stop - hence this adds to the immersion.

But if you are simply frustrated by not being able to "rest" inbetween, that's a pseudo-issue. Encounters are scattered in this game. Plenty of places everywhere where you can let your character stay and not die whilst doing so. Encounters are brief and escapable for what I'd gather is this very purpose of needing a breather.

Wow, people can really argue against a pause function in a video game, you guys are great.
