More time doesn't always equal a better game. Diablo 3 took twelve years to develop and it's still mediocre at best.
what makes you think diablo 3 took 12 years... i would say around the time WoW started dieing off. I'm sure D3 was planned 12 years ago but with WoW being the only blizzard title produced for the last 12 years I would think that D3 was on the back burnner for a LONG time.

Do you believe that BioWare would have altered the child's interactions during the opening level with another year to develop the game? I didn't care about the kid with what we got and I doubt I would have cared about the kid even if they had another year to fine tune it.EnvyTB075 wrote...
Yep, giving themselves a year less in development TOTALLY was their idea....totally....

it sorta was, as Ninja Stan put on a ealier page (Page 3), both parties have to agree on a time-frame before production begins.EnvyTB075 wrote...

Its not so much EA saying: "we demand you be finished in <insert time here>, its "you promised us it would be done by <Insert time here>, we expect you to keep true to your word".

I see alot of people on these forums say the game sucks because "EA forced the release date to early" or "EA was forceing Bioware to put Multiplayer in the game".
To all those who said EA ruined the game, you may find this article of interest
www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123200-EA-Gave-BioWare-Complete-Creative-Control
"EA was not all that intrusive"
"We had complete creative control over a lot of it"
So, did Bioware have complete creative control of everything or not?
complete creative control within a certain time frame im sure.
kinda like if your wife tells you... you can pick any color to paint the house, so long as its blue.
you can develop this game anyway you like, so long as its done by this date.
bottom line... blame lies with both sides. EA for not giving Bioware enough time, Bioware for being too ambitious given the time they had to work with.

I'd think that the entire idea would never have existed due to the fact that they would have known they'd have more time to work the particulars of the plot, instead of reverting to "CHILD DIED, FEEL SAD" from the get go.
The Tuchanka story arc was ME3's most obviously polished story element that truly lived up to the whole "choices and consequences" hype that was the backbone of the series, its why it is universally acknowledged as the best part of ME3 and is probably the only other constant in discussions besides ending hate or support. This alone showed that they did have the capacity to deliver, which is why i can't accept that all the other paper thin plot elements were a part of BioWares original plot direction.

from what you are saying it sounds like you did not want more time for them to develope, but you wanted more time for them to write the story pre-development

Regardless of how much development time you have, if you don't have an ending written or even outlined until a few months before release, that is 100% your fault.
Also, Bioware knew from the beginning how much time they would have. This wasn't like KOTOR 2, where the publisher moved up the release date. They've been making games for 18 years, and 2 years is not an unreasonable time frame to make a game like this, especially since the engine and most of the combat system had already been set up in ME2. Bioware should have known what they could accomplish with the time and money they were given and planned accordingly.
If the development time wasn't enough to meet their ambitions, then they should have adjusted their ambitions.

What I find really funny is when people blame EA for the endings. EA would have probably liked something much safer and convetional....like MEHEM
no probably about it.
but the gripe about EA is that the deadline they set put Bioware's backs against the wall.
problem is that Bioware should have known they were biting off too much for the time they had... and EA should have known that they needed more time to work with what they had.
it was a no-win situation.
real-world monetary concerns for profit-based companies dicated that there be a deadline set in place. Both Bioware and EA had to have known the consequences of the deadline. They did what they could; Bioware changed the storyline from the dark matter thing they were originally going to do, and EA extended the release date several months.
but it does come a point where you gotta bite the bullet and say "we need to do this, its taken too long, and you can't please everyone."
end result is what we got. and that's what happens whenever you deal with a for-profit corporation (which is itself not evil... i highly doubt any indy developers have the resources needed to make the franchine into what it is).
my hope at this point is that both the devs and the publishers realize their mistake, and that the former keeps their feet on the ground when developing ME4 and that the latter give the devs a bit more time to do what they plan correctly.

Really all that needs to be said for all the "good enough" mechanics in the game.
If if they weren't rushed, then maybe the lead writer and project director wouldn't have cobbled together a crummy ending without peer input.
Sure, there we're given the freedom to take ME3 in whatever direction they wanted. But they didn't have the time to pull it off.

EA did not say: "You are going to have this done by the date we mandate or else".
EA Actually said: "we had a mutual agreement for this date, we expect you to honor your agreement".
