Some new kits have come out which are worth exploring. Honestly, just get back into it with your favourite older kits and rediscover it for yourself. You can try and meet up with BSNers who will help you run and earn creds to unlock the new characters, guns etc. What platform are you on?

Just start back in bronze or silver, it's not too difficult. I have been stuck with the N7 Destoryer for months now having a solid build on it. Try it without devastator mode. Put your points into the Shylock rocket and nade launcher. If you try the Rocket put the points into:
0:6:6:6:6
Hawk Missile going into Hydra Missile. The Grenade Launcher should go into Force & Damage.
To compensate for the lack of grenades I use the Warfighter Package, Grenade Capacity or Shock Trooper on equipment. That's some percentage of weapon bonus with an extra grenade or three for your grenade launcher.
Remember to spam grenade launcher. Hydra Missile almost always hit's a mark.
I usually use the Harrier, Crusader, Claymore, Revnant, Geth Shotgun or Particle Beam.

There have been a lot of changes. Primarily, techsplosions are much easier to do now, and have seriously upped the utility of engineer kits. Grenades are a lot stronger thanks to grenade capacity gear. There is a very strong new enemy factions.

I'm PC. Good to hear that techsplosions are easier now; I have a serious love for the engineer.
Also, there are volus now in MP? My brain, it is confused.

Wait till you see a volus slingin' a batarian gauntlet like Captain Falcon. Falcon Punching all over the galaxy solving teen pregnancy one Cerberus Centurion at a time.
