I think this is probably the best description I can come up with.

Platinum is a difficulty ruled by a few specific kits, with others being average, sub-average or flat out poor choices. Kits without grenades, weapon damage powers or without gluing a noob tube gun on them (Reetard carbine or the cerberus carrier for instance) will not do well on platinum at all.

You forgot the acolyte. Makes most adepts and any engineer significantly better when taking on platinum.

Gold players that are happy there and don't act elitest aren't scrubs.

Gold players that try to act like they're just as good as platinum players, making "boss spam" excuses to try and cover the fact that they simply can't hang, trying to imply that they're somehow righteous for not playing a "poorly implemented difficulty" (another excuse), are scrubs.  They could develop the skill with some effort but the fact that they hold themselves back with poor, bitter excuses instead is what makes them scrubs.

How many BSners are actually arguing that Gold is harder than Platinum? And can you prove they're not able to beat Platinum? Numbers and videos or screenshots, please. At least put some effort in your theory of epic butthurt.

But again, if it makes you feel better, go ahead and call others scrubs in a coop game. I'd really like to know how some of the new supposed elite perform in actual PvP games. I bet they're getting annihilated constantly and then try to cover their insecurities by stroking their e-peen in a coop game. They could develop the skill with some effort but they prefer acting like pros at killing enemies with poor AI behaviour and doing Platinum solos or speedruns.

Don't try to answer because everything you'll say will be dismissed as bitter excuses. I'm out.

You're butthurt is showing.

It's doesn't make me feel any better at all, heck I wasn't even talking about you.  Don't do speedruns either, anyone can spawn nuke.  The point, if you could ever see it through you massive butthurt, was that if complainers spent half as much time playing platinum as they do whining about it, gold would start feeling as boring as silver to them too.  But go ahead and keep holding yourselves back instead, and getting defensive when your epeens are deflated.

They'd probably either A. Complain about pugs being bad if they're pugging or B. Find Platinum nearly just as easy if they have a half way competant team.

If your team is decent, nothing in this game is actually hard.

Though Platinum gets fun and challenging when a player stops blaming pugs for being pugs and actually carries them to victory anyway :wizard:

Phantoms aren't bosses. No one said the most deadly unit for a faction had to be a boss. The bullet sponge units are the bosses. They are the ones that extra headshot modifiers don't work against, for example..

This is obviously open to debate. If I try a solo a match; to me the boss units are those that can remove you from the game permenantly - i.e: those that insta-kill.

Units such as Atlases are actually easier to deal with since you can keep them at a distance whereas Phantoms and Banshees all seek to get in-close.

There is defo room for lots of debate. I will just put it down to those that can insta-kill you (as annoying as I think those m-f-ing Marauders are). This, therefore, counts: Phantoms, Atlases, Banshees, Brutes, Praetorians (sorry if there's any I've missed).

I just noticed that, by my reckoning (and I admit that it may-well be clouded due to my inebriation): the geth have no insta-kill unit? Clearly they didn't have a Terminator on their side...

However; there are some units that I consider worse than the insta-kill units - namely being Scions, Geth Hunters, Geth Pyros, Collector Possessed units (including abominations, scions and praetorians).

And no post would be complete without mentioning the dreaded Geth bomber - the scourge of the universe!

I know that I've likely mixed things up with capital letters and whatnot - hopefully that doesn't detract from my meaning!

Thanks for reading. Posted Image

Not picking fight  just  that Scions insta-kill .

As i assumed, only bitter excuses.

My point, if you could ever comprehend it, was that maybe not everyone cares as much about skill as you or other special individuals do and actually have thoughts not solely based on insecurities or jealousy of your greatness. But go ahead and keep belittling others for their opinions. It always makes my day when you guys try to troll. It's as entertaining as german sketch comedy shows.

But this time i'm really out. Have to treat my massive butthurt so i can sleep tight tonight.

no.... they aren't

otherwise Wave 10 Gold is the ultimate boss spam. 6 bosses....

I don't think so. Phantoms are not Bosses

Phantoms/Brutes/Scions are mid bosses nto quite boss grade but close to it Geth do not have a Mid boss instead they have a "Geth Pyro" which is more or less the weakest extent and even a Geth Prime is more "mid boss" than boss in reality

For me, that's the challenge of playing Plat. Getting "subpar" kits to work, without resorting to the Harrier or Reegar or whatever. It gets to the point where roflstomping on gold in 20 mins every time with NO possibility of failure is, well, pretty boring, so may as well look for something with more to it.

Pugging Plat with a HEng or a FQE or a Phoenixdept on the other hand, still makes the game interesting.

Gold > platinum... It's a matter of balance.

Enemies don't have stupidly over inflated health pools in gold... they do in platinum.

The difficulty scaling in terms of enemy health places a lot more emphasis on being able to put out the highest damage; making many more kits sub-optimal whilst leaving others much more dominant.

Platinum being poorly designed has everything to do with scaling, and nothing to do with the prevalence of bosses.

My FQI with a predator X can massacre any faction bar reapers on gold, but that same build is useless on platinum.

A destroyer with a typhoon scales well with either difficulty.

A GI with a talon scales well with either difficulty.

The problem is not the perceived boss spam, the problem is the fact that weapon damage classes or grenade classes have "overkill" written all over them on gold, and platinum, but other classes do not. Ergo, tougher makes life a lot tougher for a volus engineer than it does an infiltrator, destroyer or a turian soldier.

I have to agree with a lot of this, there does seem to a few kits that perform far better in Platinum than other kits do and from my experience playing Platinum I do tend to see the same kits being used regularly while in Gold the I tend to see a greater variety of kits.

FTFY

The same excuses are made all over the interwebz

"i don't play plat cuz it's just boss spam"

Eh, no.  It spawns enough bosses (atlas, banshee, prime, praetorian) that you actually have to deal with them during the rounds, instead of just continually ignoring the one or two that spawn during gold rounds to deplete the spawn budget with loltroopers, but it also spawns plenty of mid-tier enemies.

Then they invariably respond with:

"don't like how plat limits what classes I can use since you have to use the OP weapon DPS classes"

to which you can rightfully respond with:  l2p plat scrub

The plat complainers everywhere do so so they don't have to admit they just don't want to or can't step up their game.  They want to believe that playing gold puts them in the elite since it used to be the max difficulty.

I don't expect to successfully PUG Plat with some gimmick build like a Batsent specced for netting things for cryo explosions, or with a Adas-focused Turian Saboteur, when I can do that on Gold because bosses have less HP and only come in frequency in the later waves.

Maybe I'll come across a group that wouldn't kick me but the last time I tried pugging Plat almost every lobby was Rio/Reapers, and I don't expect to carry with a gimmick class without it taking a long time to get to match completion.

If it's going to be a Plat game with friends, then anything goes because it largely doesn't matter what setups we use.

This just shows what you know.

The fastest way to deplete the spawn budget is to focus on the elites (Phantoms, Dragoons, Ravagers, Hunters, Rocket Troopers, Pyros, Brutes, Scions) instead of either bosses or mooks. On Gold or Platinum.

If you focus on Atlases and Banshees on Platinum, you haven't learned all you could about this game yet.

I play gold because I find it more enjoyable, maybe also because it's easier than platinum too. DPS is too important in platinum though, makes me feel limited in what characters and weapons I can use but maybe I'm just not a good enough player.

FYI, I think you have the wave 8 structure on platinum wrong. Isn't it 3 pyros, 1 atlas, 1 prime and 3 phantoms? No dragoons on that wave.
