Surprisingly the mother was totally up for it, and loved it from the moment I suggested it (and she even knows where the name came from).
On 4/3/13 my baby girl was brought into the world named Liara!
I would love it if someone could tell me the origin and meaning of the name. As far as I can tell it's close to the Hebrew Liora which means "New Light" but I'm not sure if that's what the developers had in mind.
Hey, so I'm the father a baby girl...and guess what her first name is!

Your daughter wasn't born neon blue, I hope? That's likely not healthy.
Congrats!

Thanks all, I've been a big fan of the ME universe since the beginning and the name goes well with my last which is Lebow. So I've got some nice alliteration in there as well. Also, no she didn't come out blue thankfully. She was very healthy, and so far has been an awesome baby. I can only hope she becomes the *Spoilers?*

I can already see the awkward conversation were you try to explain to her where the name came from.
Congratulations nonetheless!

Congratulations.
My fiance and I just adopted two 5 week old bunnies and once we can tell their sex (which won't be for a few more weeks) my fiance keeps asking me if I am going to insist we name one, if its a male, Garrus.

Well done! Congrats!
Also you've restored some of my faith in BSN and most of it in humanity.

Naming her Shepard would be unfortunate. Congrats though.

sad man, you couldnt even think of a name for your baby girl without resorting to a f**king video game. there is such a thing called real life and no it cant be found in a game, the wife/mistress/girlfriend should leave/divorce/charge you more money or stop playing WoW with you!!!!!!!
GROW UP to all who have to rely on a video game to name something or someone or to take inspiration from after all its only a story and a half fixed one at that.
its starting to look like a cult here with all the FANATICS (usa calls fanatics terrorists)
