Surprisingly the mother was totally up for it, and loved it from the moment I suggested it (and she even knows where the name came from).
On 4/3/13 my baby girl was brought into the world named Liara!
I would love it if someone could tell me the origin and meaning of the name. As far as I can tell it's close to the Hebrew Liora which means "New Light" but I'm not sure if that's what the developers had in mind.
Grr my wife and I were thinking of calling a potential future daughter Liara but since we're unlikely ever to meet I can't see it being an issue.
Congrats on the baby and congrats for having good taste in names:)

sad man, you couldnt even think of a name for your baby girl without resorting to a f**king video game. there is such a thing called real life and no it cant be found in a game, the wife/mistress/girlfriend should leave/divorce/charge you more money or stop playing WoW with you!!!!!!!
GROW UP to all who have to rely on a video game to name something or someone or to take inspiration from after all its only a story and a half fixed one at that.
its starting to look like a cult here with all the FANATICS (usa calls fanatics terrorists)
I named my cat Liara Tali Angel and if the new kitten I'm planning to adopt is girl she will be named Leliana Isabella Kyria

I think a lot of names are inspired by literature and other media, and I don't see why games are any worse.sad man, you couldnt even think of a name for your baby girl without resorting to a f**king video game. there is such a thing called real life
If you disagree, do you know anyone named Mary? Michael? How about John? Because those names are all from a book...

I was, however, hoping you had called her Harbinger! I'm joking, I'm joking! Liara is a beautiful name in my opinion. I think she'll be honoured by where the inspiration of her name came from.

It's a nice name.
My childhood best friend was named after a bald alien chick from a startrek movie, so I have no problem with this sort of thing.

That said, this was the first thing I had to think of, and I'm really surprised I haven't seen this image yet in the 3 pages so far!

I think I read somewhere that the inspiration for Shepard may have come from the astronaut Alan Shepard but it would be interesting to know what the inspiration for names like Liara, Tali, Garrus, etc. was.
And congrats on having your baby, maybe a future son will be named Garrus?

I'd love to see one of the original writers tell us how they came up with the names of some of the main characters.

That's from here my friend:
And you're spot on. Personally I would have preferred Armstrong but that may have been too obvious a reference in culture like how LOST beat you over the head with Rousseau, David Hume, Jeremy Bentham, and John Locke. Neil Armstrong was a childhood hero of mine though may he rest in peace (2012). My heart broke a little when I heard about it.

I always like to pronounce "Kaidan" as "Kai Dan" as in "Fai Dan" from Feros in ME1 haha. Sounds sillier.
Kaidan is japanese and means "strange, mysterious, or bewitching apparitious talk/narrative"
