sad man, you couldnt even think of a name for your baby girl without resorting to a f**king video game. there is such a thing called real life and no it cant be found in a game, the wife/mistress/girlfriend should leave/divorce/charge you more money or stop playing WoW with you!!!!!!!
GROW UP to all who have to rely on a video game to name something or someone or to take inspiration from after all its only a story and a half fixed one at that.
its starting to look like a cult here with all the FANATICS (usa calls fanatics terrorists)
You know that all names originate from somewhere right? Plenty of names, mine included originate from mythology and greek. But I guess, fiction is only unacceptable when it's in video games.
I think Liara is a really nice name, and I dobut that his alone in naming her Liara. I wish my parents would've named me something original instead of..... Marcus.... It's such a boring name.... Marcus.....

And from the sound of it I'm guessing their not the type of people who tell their kids how to deal with bullies.
And it only takes one good friend and family.
From now on, I shall call you, lebullied.
Also, are you french?

Good god.
I hope you all like your kids being bullied and then ****ing about it to you.
Because a majority of kids will be playing Mass Effect and growing up with it. Kindergarden "I've had enough of your disingenuous assertions".
Can I bully you cause of your name? Legend, or Ledgend.
And from the sound of it I'm guessing their not the type of people who tell their kids how to deal with bullies.
You sir, are too cynical. Poeople don't get bullied over games.. and seeing as how ME is done, kids won't know where the name originated from. Plus in fairness, Liara isn't actually that bad a name.

Well... at least you didn't name her Dovahkiin.
May the fate's have mercy on that kid. If he/she doesn't start working on those shouts - (s)he'll be mocked! Ridiculed! A shout-less dovahkiin!
Also congrats OP.

Friends bullying? Don't really consider those people friends... and you were referring to kids at social/school - weren't you?
Yes I'm french.

As someone with a very unique name as well, I can tell you she will probably whine about her name when she is younger and ask why you didn't just name her Jennifer or Meghan or something. But she will appreciate it when she is older
I am trying to convince my husband to name our first girl Tali - but no go

Ha, I think the only one who is all that sad here is you. Weirdest thing in the world to get upset over. Do you realize the sheer number of people who are named after their parents favorite book or film character? Or after their favorite musician or sports idol? There have been opinion polls that show these are some of THE most common ways people get names for their children, a video game is just as valid as any of those options.
Liara is a rather normal sounding and yet mostly unique name for a girl. It isnt just a completely made up name either, as there are people alive right now with the name Liara. So what if the OP was inspiried by a game character for his daughters name. Not exactly something to have such a freak out over.
If I have a son, he's being called John straight away. People might think because my second name is Kennedy I've named him after JFK, but deep down, I'll always know he's being named after default Shepard xD

Naming her Shepard would be unfortunate. Congrats though.
My wife and have a cat we named garrus.
I don't know, I'm so used to hearing my FemShep addressed as "Shepard" that it might as well be her first name, and it doesn't seem to detract from her femininity.
Congratulations to the OP!

Kidding asides, I don't see why people would tease the kid. There are worst names people give their children. I think Liara a pretty name. Your wife is awesome for allowing you to name the kid that.

What about naming her after Diana Allers? That's a pretty name, right?BNN999 wrote...
Liara is a very pretty name and she probably shouldn't catch any flak for it, since nobody will remember the game by the time she's all grown up. It's not like naming your kid Worf, in any event. Garrus and Tali Zorah could work as baby names too, dunno about something like Wrex though...

Maybe if you really hated your kid and wanted to remind her constantly that she was a mistake, you could do that.

I do plan on teaching her where the name came from (and also letting her play ME). If she is anything like her father she will definitely be into history and archaelogy. The mother and I actually do dream of going to space as we are both partial to being part of a colonization mission if ever there came to be one.
There are a few reasons I settled on Liara, both for the meaning in-game, and outside it. Of course I hope she exhibits some of the traits of her namesake (Shadow Broker anyone? Or helping build an object of the Crucible's importance). That aside however, the name itself is, in my opinion, unique but elegant. It's not too over-the-top, but still remains very uncommon (something the mother delt with a lot being named Elizabeth). Also, my last name which she has happens to begin with an "L" as well, so she will end up having alliteration when saying both the first and last names together.
However, knowing all this we did give her the middle name "Remi" and if she does so choose that she dislikes her first name for whatever reason we will also suggest that she could go by the middle name, or even something as simple as "Elle" or "L" whichever you prefer (some Death Note love eh?).
