I just heard this at the Temple of Athame on Thessia when Shepard clicks on the shield relic: "The goddess Athame's shield. Legend says she used it to protect Thessia when the heavens grew angry."

Anyone think this sounds an aweful lot like the Protheans protected the Asari from some kind of space invasion, perhaps even the last Reaper cycle as the Reapers came looking for Protheans?

Eh, maybe it was just an umbrella.

It wasn't reapers, it was the Oravores. They tried to take over thessia for its unusually high reserves of element zero. The protheans protected the asari from them.

Not the Reapers. The Reapers would have steam-rolled the asari had they attacked, but they don't go after primitive races. If anything, they would have thought they were protecting the asari from the Protheans.
