ME1 - simply the best ?

Now that I've managed to complete ME1, I'm just blown away as to how good version it is - from the story line, the size and scale of the cites, the actual missions and sub missions, access to all parts of the Normandy, your contact and interplay with all of the characters inc meeting Souverign , the skills and weapons/upgrades tree. There's a few things that I don't like about the game - the landscapes
are pretty poor, the Geth even on hardcore are too easy to kill, the Mako can drive up 90 degree angles and your locked into 50% of the galaxy map but thats about it. There is so much that is right with ME1 its close to perfection and I had thought ME2 was a truly epic game.
Currently on a sceond play through this time as a Vanguard and the game is still amazing me. When I've played ME2 after ME1, some of the changes like the skills/weapons tree, totally restricted access to the citadel - its only after playing ME1 did I realise how huge the place was, not being able to go back to planets like Navro and Faros, not being able to walk off the Normandy when docked or access the ships hold, or the chit chat in the lifts and the list goes on. ME2 would have been the ultimate game had they kept all of the best RPG elements and open world aspects of the game.
Sorry for rambling on .... but I just wanted to praise ME1 !!!

But before writing a list of all the things I miss about ME1, I want to put it as simple as I can: ME1 was way more an RPG than ME2/3. Including character development (skills), "open world" (still pretty limited) etc.
Plus: Liara looked a lot different (better, more feminine) in ME1 than she did in ME3

ME3 is truly my favorite of the three games...but it's only so great because ME1 and ME2 came before it. In my opinion of course.
Either way...I can never play ME3 without playing through ME1 and ME2 first...so in essence...they are all one game to me.

I did not like the Mako, much too bouncy. But i missed the upgrades a lot, skill upgrades as well as ítem upgrades.

Her face was so much better looking in ME3...in my opinion.

The other thing about ME1 is that the story itslef is more complete, from the get go and when you finally meet Soverign is spot on and even Bring Down the Sun as a DLC was excellent. Its not like ME3 where you need to get the DLC's - Leviathan, Ashes etc to get the bigger picture.

I think it is funny how they removed the mako, added scanners, removed scanners and added.. well, scanners in part III again. About the DLCs.. i hate them ^^ they cause games to be released incomplete. "Yeah, we can add that later via DLC and get money for it." Imho, DLCs should only provide aesthetic content. Story and other essential content should be packed together and released in big addons, which legitimate the price. DLCs make developers do sloppy work: Either they release a finished, polished product ("it's done when it's done"), or disguise patches as DLCs.
Ps: http://masseffect.wi...ki/Liara_T'Soni take a look at Liara in the different games. I think, Liara gained some weight and aged a lot in ME3, her nose is different, I liked her slender throat, face and figure-hugging outfits. The corners of her mouth dropped in ME3.

ME2 is my favorite though, but it is very close. I was not that pleased on my first playthough of ME2, because I missed so may thing trying to hurry, and get to ME3..[ I wish I had never done that
But I agree, every time I play one, I find something new, and the Choices at the making of a new character also make it very re playable.
The randomized maybe this time i will get all the good armor for everyone aspect is also interesting.
It was very well though out, with a wonderful ending.
And I think liara is better, voice and all in ME1. I know texture wise this is not the case, but there is a difference about her that I can not quite put my finger on. in the next 2 installments she seems very cold, and un emotional, withdrawn.

So right now I'm back on my 2nd play through of ME1 and my what a difference between the two. I'm enjoying ME1 where as ME3's not even on the same league (graphics excluded).
Mell.. your right on Liara I think she looks much better in ME1 - more natural and feminine. Jokers also better in ME1 than the ME 3, and I noticed that they also changed Aria's as well for ME3 and not for the best as I though she looked perfect in ME2.
Nuke .. right now in ME1, I'm trying to do the same .. this time I've really gone for charisma/intimidate options rather than simply try and fight my way through. I'm also trying to
upgrade all of the characters differently and hopefully making the right choices with weapon mods, armor, which actual weapons to keep and which to sell on. Even driving the Mako around I'm having to be on my toes just in case a Thresher Maws pops out of now where and I've bumped into a few new characters that I totally missed the first time around. I hate the 150 limit on items so I'm constantly trying to sell off older kit and some bugs where your team mates get stuck and then won't move but those are small things compared to the good. There's so many elements to the ME that they got right and makes it a joy to play .
I'm looking forward to taking this Shep into ME2 and see what and who turns up !

For me all three games have severe flaws and problems, they are special because of the characters and the fact, that it is a closely connected trilogy, like no other game trilogy in gaming history.

For me ME2 is the best part of the series. Sure, the actual story was a bit pointless, since it didn't drove the story of the trilogy forward and the skill and update system were a bit too simple, but the controls were the best, the characters were the best and the ending was satisfying.

I think I'd have to agree with you about ME2. I'm playing through it right now, and I love the darker theme of the story. I agree too that it is pointless in the long run, but I still enjoy it for what it is. I told myself that ME1 was the best, but playing the trilogy over again, ME2 is just undeniable. Nothing put me more into the moment than the suicide mission, one of the best moments in gaming for me.

Yeah Mass Effect 2 feels like one of those games that was created just for yourself.
For me it was perfection, so much so that the story, voice acting (and very limited interaction compared with ME2), combat, and overall, makes going back to ME1 feel very basic to play.
For me, most of the skill upgrades were pointless in Mass Effect. In ME2 you could actually feel when you upgraded a skill with 4 upgrades, than needing about 15 slots like in the original. I did miss certain weapon and armour upgrades definitely, but not enough for me to crave them.
