I don't think they would drop out of the current console market straight away, be at least a few years before that. So I do think it will be released on current consoles.

I can see a cross-generational release, but at different times. Like a current gen release originally, with a next gen port later (or vice versa). I think that the current gen consoles are too big of a market to ignore right out of the gate, especially for a more niche genre like party-based WRPGs.

I think it will be both simply because there will be alot less of a market if they release it on next gen right when it comes out. it would be stupid to not release on this gen or both

They'll release on next gen later as there'll be issues with importing between old and new consoles which they have to work with Sony and Microsoft. Huge potential for bugs and all sorts of problems there.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in the past games don't continue to be released for the old consoles for very long after the new ones are released, I would think after six months of the new consoles being released the chances of any game being released for the current ones is next to zero.

They'll never do a staggered release like that though. Even back with Origins, they were going to do that- release the PC version first since it was done and the console port later. Instead they just delayed the PC version and released all versions later at the same time.

If it does end up a cross generational game then they'll likely do the same and release current gen, nextgen and PC versions all at once. Save on marketing that way, I'd imagine.

By now PC, 360 and PS3 are known systems, for which it is easier to develop than the new ones. So developing for the new ones will cost considerable effort. So I assume that BW will make a choice, because they don't have infinite resources. They may go for the new or for the old ones, but not both. As a PC gamer I hope they go for the new generation. Doing so will allow a more advanced game using the new tech. That will probably produce a more interesting PC port.

I feel that DA3 would be a good send off to the current generation of consoles. Then the next gen can have their own version taking place an age later or something. That way the game can start afresh and won't be bugged down by keeping track of all that import data.

I want it on the current generation consoles. I have an Xbox 360, but my brother wants to get a Playstation 4 and, since we pool our money together for it much like everything else in college, I will have to get it or spend weeks arguing for the sake of one game.

This is assuming there is transfering save files from current generation consoles to the next.

I hope it's on the current generation because I don't see myself switching to the new consoles for two years or so

We already know Bioware will wait to release on the next gen consoles, which is good news for everyone because who wants a slap-dash game? No one likes DA2 and that was the most rushed AAA game I've ever seen... Although the first release of FFXIV comes close, but Square are remaking that entire game where Bioware refuses to remake DA2.

Actually alot of people like DA2... They just think DA:O waas better in some aspects. And have you played Aliens: colonial marines? How can a 7 year in development game look so rushed? That's how.
Are the yearly installments of Assassin creed games rushed? The bi-yearly COD and battlefield games rushed?

I think Ubisoft has done a fine job with Assassin's Creed, their only lapse being Revelations which had a great ending to cover up the negative facets of the game. Granted, they have separate dev teams working on two different Assassin's Creed games at once, and so the staggered releases are showing no drop in quality for that reason.

I feel though, that games of a larger scope like Origins (and to some extene DA2) are, a longer development time is necessary, and because (as far as I know) it's the same development team for each game, and so they obviously can only work on one at a time.

Dragon Age 2 was far from a bad game, it was an average game, maybe slightly below average.  There have been many more games released in the last few years that are far worse, how about the two Force Unleashed games or the Colonial Marines game that was just released.  Heck Skyrim on the PS3 I would consider worse for it was unplayable at launch and it took several bug patches before people could actually play.

If DA:I does come out this year then it's going to be a launch title which already gives it the potential of generating over a million in sales simple for being one of the limited choices costumers will have when buying their new system.

I do hope we see ports to the PS3/360 just like Ubisoft is doing for AC4 as that will personally save me around $400-$500 this fall/winter

A million units sold is considered a borderline failure for a AAA video game. Dead Space 3 was, allegedly, stated to not be a success unless it sold 5 million copies due to its expense. Adding next-gen requirements and graphics into the mix will likely increase the development cost even more than the current gen.

I would not hazard a guess as to how many copies DA3 is projected to move or how much it would take to break even (or gain a profit), but it would BEYOND safe to say one million would not be anywhere close for either.

Personally, I'm hoping that DA:I is for current gen, as I would much rather keep my money in my pocket as opposed to shelling it out for a next gen console. Is that what they'll do though? Who knows. They're keeping tight lipped on everything DA related, so it's tough to guess

I would think developers and publishers are looking hard at THQ with UFC 3 when they had to sell two million copies to break even and fell short and it seems to have been the final mistep and forced them into bankrupcy.  As you did say hardly anyone is really going to know the true numbers behind the numbers of the game they want to sell and how much the game is going to cost.

I doubt going to next generation is going to cost a lot more besides the time to learn the new engine because everything they are using as far as physcial labour and development would be the same as the older consoles.

Didn't they say something about more DAIII info coming in the northern spring? It's April. That's the northern spring, right? Does that mean we'll hear something any time now/May-time??
