Hang on - so assuming Qunari have relatively long lifespans, what do they do with Qunari who get too old to carry out their Qun-assigned roles? Like a soldier who is too old to fight any more? It doesn't seem like there's much of a place in Qunari society for people who aren't useful...

THe Qunari who grows too old to perform their duty are put in retrirement homes, and are treated with respect. However, the inability to perform his ability is often too much for a Qunari, who honors duty above all, and many old Qunari ends up commiting suicide, rather than die of old age.

The ones who are still in good enough shape to teach their replacements are used for that. The ones who aren't are put in nursing homes, for the same reasons mages aren't killed out of hand. They can't help being disabled.

That's only if they're mentally or physically impaired. If they're just old but mentally capable, they go on to teach the younger generations that are assigned to their old role.

I did say too old to perform their duty, didn't I? I believe I did. As long as they have a duty to perform, be that their original or the teaching of said duty, they aren't retired.
