LEFT FOR DEAD END wrote...

I have better luck surviving Atlas encounters than Phantoms, and that just might be my luck or my style of gameplay. I'm just betting with going toe to toe with an atlas.

1 on 1 skills aren't what makes an Atlas a boss in my mind.

My list is more along the following:
- Bullet sponge - It allows other troops to take you out while you're distracted.
- High damage - If you are caught out in the open it can take you out fast.
-  It's big - Yup. It could benefit from a good diet.
- AoE auto-locking stagger DoT weapon - With instantaneous target transition and insane reversal speeds.
- 1.4x headshots modifier - Whatever, I was just after the medal anyway.
- Unlike Phantoms, you can't kill 4 with one clip from a Scorpion.
- Extremely high sync-kill percentage - You better stagger it.
- Location control - it can lock out pathways due to its size.

if not speced properly guardians are near impossible to kill does that make them bosses when they are ridiculously easy to kill with common builds

Not so but they are pretty close to a boss post.

guardians are hardly a threat even when not specced properly. Ease of killing is not sole determining factor since other bosses can be easy too if specced right.

Guardians were a breeze for me, mainly because I'm used to shooting through the mail-slot or have armor piercing ammo on.

Ability to sync-kill = Boss. Even Brutes are a joke with most of the abilities you mentioned.

But, Phantoms are a pox on the name of Ninjas. Can we get a Ryu Hayabusa character specifically speccd to sync kill a Phantom?

biower pls ...

Phantoms are boss, but they are not bosses.

They have a boss, the Illusive Man. He has a boss, too.

And the Shadow is boss. Some players are bossy. What was the question? I need more coffee...

I`d say she is a boss because if you play bronze/silver she is almost as rare as boss units.
Also we can call her "Group Boss." 3-4 Phantoms coming at you together.... is BOSS.

How do you define boss?
The strongest enemy in health, generally massive?
Or a very deadly enemy who forces you to use all skills that you can learned to counter its numerous attacks?

Anything with a big amount of health/armor. So Banshees, Primes, Seeker Swarms, just to name a few.

You are right.... Last night, i mustered all the skills i have learned in an intense effort to kill this one phantom.

I pressed Tactical Cloak, then hit Shadow Strike....

It was an intense battle i soon won't forget

Whoa. I'm surprised the majority voted yes.
Phantoms aren't bosses imo, because what OP said already.

this is true. few know the secrets to the SS shadow...

btw, just attempted another solo speedrun with the fury. My last run, everything was going exceptionally well. by round 7, i had 7 rockets, 4 ops packs, 3 medi-gel. I was running away from the main glacier room by teleporting to the hallway outside of the "the cubby of shame" I teleported onto the stairs, when a banshee who was following me, teleported to the same location and grabbed me.... on the stairs..... <_<

so much for using the bug to my favor....

They don't have Boss size. But they do have the best DPS/Accuracy out of all the Cerberus units. Boss damage so... yeah kinda

Most of those reasons you believe about Phantoms would also make Ravager and Dragoons non-boss enemies (to you).

Dragoons are the boss units. Phantoms are a sort of Captain unit... except for the synch kill part (which is significant). But think about it...on Gold it's two Dragoons and One Phantom, Not two Phantoms and one Dragoon, because the latter would be easier to contend with. Then again, on objective waves when six phantoms spawn in front of you... but then again, six Dragoons would be even more ridiculous.

I got one.
I was using a scrubby Fury in this platinum game.
I tend tto have that garbage move AF on her (call me a hipster).
With special training from a pro monk master hermit from China, I learned a secret style.
I shot my charged acolyte gun at them, hitting two at once!
Then I did my move. I ran up to them both and used throw.
I don't remember what happend after that but patches in my memory show a big purple light.

True Seeker Swarms are a boss unit. Who was the designer who decided that Seeker Swarms and Possessed Seeker Swarms should be able to absorb more damage than their Collector Trooper counterparts? Especially when Swarms are a summon?
