It doesn't behave like a Shotgun "should" and deals only average damage. It is also kinda underwhelming against bosses, like all projectile weapons. I think heroicmass also wanted to show some Venom gameplay at some point. I'm looking forward to it - until then I'll try it myself.
There's so much more to it. I named the cons, now it's time for the pros:
- Staggers enemies reliably
- Charged shot has considerable AoE damage and stagger effect
- Charged shots can be released while running and will be when staggered (Geth!)
- Like most projectile weapons it is really good to apply ammo effects, imho the best
- Unlike other projectile/charged weapons, its projectiles bounce off surfaces/walls in a predictable way
- You can double-tap if you shoot again immediately after releasing a charged shot
- Trivializes most of the most annoying enemies (Bombers, Pyros, Rocket Troopers, Phantoms, Geth in general...)
- Great rate of fire
- RAGDOLL
"How to use the Venom Shotgun" might be a little too general, but this is how I use it:
- Double-tap whenever possible and/or necessary (Example)
- Use surfaces/walls for charged shots (Example 1, Example 2)
- Shoot at their feet (Ragdoll! Abominations! And also saving Volus)
- Use ammo powers. Incendiary or Disruptor are most effective, since you'll want to setup explosions
- Because of that it's a great Engineer's weapon; QME, SE, HE, GE but also SI and QMI of course
Mods used: Spare Thermal Clip, High Caliber Barrel
Just some random footage I recorded while playing with my friends, only minor editing since it's my first video and I just wanted to show how I use one of my favourite weapons which should definitely get more love, especially here on BSN. I did my first Platinum solo with it, so I can attest to its greatness.
Hope you like it.
Edit: DrellGuard and SE/Col are on host, SE/G and QME is off host.
