He was just pissed about having to ally with the people he fought before, so he threw a fit and plunged the kingdom into civil war by committing regicide. Screw that guy.

I'm definitely let down a bit by Loghain's characterization in game. I was hoping to get some explanation at least when I recruited him, but his role as a companion just seemed tacked on. Yes, it was explained that he was only doing what he thought was best for Ferelden and he admitted his mistake, and also that he didn't intend to kill Anora, but why?
There was little dialogue available for him. I even waited to do Morrigan's quest with the Flemeth encounter so that I could bring Loghain and hear him comment on Flemeth, given that his history with her. Not a word of acknowledgment. I'm happy he's available to recruit, but I just wish it was fleshed out more.
