Would want Carver or Bethany in DA3?

I'm fine with Varric and Cassandra being party members at this point though because it was clearly set up through the framed narrative in DA2 that they would both be present and significant during the time in which Inquisition is taking place. (plus, I don't think there is a single soul who wasn't completely charmed by Varric)

Just a quick cameo like that would be nice. Something that would make returning players feel a bit nostalgic, but without taking too much focus. Our inquisitors don't know these characters after all, their inclusion would be for us as players to see that their lives survived Kirkwall.
It's also the part of DA2 where you have the most control, I think. Thus it'd be nice to see those decisions come with some consequence, even if that consequence wouldn't be bigger than a cameo.

Bethany was impossible to hate, but would be meaningless without the protagonist being her sibling.
Carver was impossible to like. I still don't understand how they justify writing this. I have nothing against a little conflict -Anders was an idiot in so many ways, yet an interesting character- but mere teenage "sibling rivalry" and a lack of attention doesn't quite cut him gladly joining the organization that made all of his family's life a living hell.

They are the only ones I wanted to return.

I disagree, what meaning they could have to the plot is only a issue of the writhers imagination. A good writer can make anything work, simple. Besides, who says they necessarily need to? Fenris had no meaning to the plot at any point in Dragon Age 2.Baelrahn wrote...
Neither.

Also Carver, hard to like, but I got around to it. He reminds me of my youngest sister and of some of my friends younger siblings. I think he was a familiar character that added some dynamic to the replayability of the game.

I'm probably going to earn a lot of dismay for this, but after my first playthrough, Fenris never makes it past his initial quest in any of my games. I don't know what it is exactly. It's not about the "quality" of the writing or anything nearly as sophisticated a complaint. He just feels more like one of Soul Calibur's cameos than an original DA-character. Yep, whatever that means. On a pure meta design level, he has this very asian popular culture vibe to him: Mostly his appearance of course, but also this rather straightforward dark hero personality, which got really tedious after a while.
That is -please- not meant to provoke any of their respective fans, just to say I may have a general problem with either approach.
...or maybe it's because Bethany reminds me of my little sister, and I'm just as biased as everyone else :]

Eh, no thanks. Never liked either sibling.
I second that, Blandany and Borver.
