hi I keep changing my mind and i making my canon warden and so which gives the better story?

I like male wardens as i'll romance morrigan and do the the ritual

but

as a female warden you'll look better but the god child won't be yours  and ill probably romance leliana as i'm marrying alistair to anora

so which is better, is it more interesting to sacrifice alistair/loghain

any help?

I can't seem to play a male character much past Lothering in DAO. The females are so much more... erm, interesting to watch progress through an entire game, regardless of romance options and other game plot consequences. But just go with what you like. I've been just doing whatever I haven't done already. All new outcomes are fun to see unfold at least once.

The only thing that is significantly different storywise depending on gender is if you pick the city elf origin - the origin is somewhat different depending on your gender (I prefer the female version there).

Otherwise, go with what you feel more comfortable with. Or play one, and then replay with the other gender.

Cousland: Revenge arc with a side of duty
Tabris: Poor local kid overcomes odds to save home and family (and everyone else)
Amell/Surana: A whole new wooooorld; a new fantastic point of view...
Brosca: From the raggiest rags to riches. Works well as a redemption tale.
Aeducan: Dynastic politics vs. personal revenge vs. the good of your nation. Can also be used well as a redemption tale.
Mahariel: Much like Amell/Surana, except...

Both the mages and the Dalish Elf leave insular homes for the Great Wide World. In either case, they could be looking forward to it or dreading it. However, the mage origin lends itself more to 'escaping the gilded cage' tales while the Dalish Elf is more of an exile, forced away from a loving home to which they can never return.

City Elf (Tabris) is generally held to be one of the strongest origins and Dalish Elf one of the weakest; Dalish Elf probably gets the fewest direct 'call backs' to their origin, although the 'Nature of the Beast' quest plays much differently. The two dwarven origins have a *lot* of additional content when you do Orzammar, down to the remarks of passerby, which makes for a really delightful and different game.

So it sort of comes down to what kind of stories you like.

I've maxed out my DAO playthroughs. I think they all have something to recommend them regardless of which sex they are.

I don't think there is a "better," there's just what you want to play and how much you enjoy the role-playing experience.

I guess it would be gratifying to be the father of the OGB, but I personally have no interest in playing males and don't feel bad not being related to the kid. If anything, I think it creates a more interesting dynamic to be the one who arranges the match without necessarily being related. (We all know that Alistair or Loghain would never have agreed if Morrigan had asked them directly, hence the reason she comes to you.) You're still responsible for the kid's birth even if you're not the one throwing your genetics into the mix, which I think is neat enough.

Personally, I always thought it created an interesting dynamic to be a female who romances Alistair and has to convince him to create a baby with another woman. Double points if she considers Morrigan a close friend (or unrequited love...) but has to convince the two people closest to her conceive a baby together, while she's left out.

Anyway: dealer's choice. Whatever you want.

If you don't want to be queen, I would say female city elf is the best in terms of tragedy and controversy in the origin storyline.

I agree with Faerunner, not only for that point but also having your warden romance Alistair makes the whole last 2 wardens story a lot more tragic,if you don't go with the ritual, and a lot more emotional if you do.

FWIW, I think Zevran has the most flavourful romance. That probably won't help your decision much, but there you are.

Since you are using your PC for play, do consider using some mods. Dialogue Tweaks and the ZDF fix a great many of the bugs or glitches in the game. If you like the story of a game, using them can increase your enjoyment.

ok I've finally whittled it down to female dwarf noble rogue or female human mage and this entirely based on story as i enjoy both classes, what do you think?

The mage origin is quite brief. But... there's a fair amount of stuff sprinkled through the main story, the DLC's (Witch Hunt and Awakening) and the PC in DA2 is related to you.

The dwarf noble origin is extensive, there's a fair amount of good story. You can romance Gorim, who is pretty awesome. And as Corker said, there's a lot of stuff for you when you return to Orzammar. But that's about it. Stuff in the DLC's is scanty. DA2 will essentially ignore your origin.

The elf mage has the same origin story and the same post-origin mage acknowledgements, but also has more in-game acknowledgements/discrimination for being an elf as well as a mage. Just saying.
