Why does anyone here actually care about score? We all know it's all about the credits and maxing out the manifest, NOTHING ELSE.

I don't really try to get a high score, I mean I'm not like one of those people that nuke spawn points to get points. But I usually do cuz I get stuck with pugs that SUCK!!!! Carrying gets so boring after a while...

Carrying is boring. It's not a good feeling to know that the entire match relies on whether or not you go down or get synced.

Score doesn't matter if you're a support class though. The DPS you can give by being a support class usually makes up for it.

As long as I get that 75 kills medal I don't care. And a 50 assists too please. And a 5 or 10 revives one as well.

Score is an indicator of DPS and if you're not DPSing in Plat, you're not carrying your weight and making it harder for use to get those credits.

If you have the lowest score, you are doing it wrong.

If you help on all the objectives, you are doing it wrong.

If you are having fun, you are doing it wrong.

If you aren't paying for PSPs, you are doing it wrong.

If you have the lowest N7 and Challenge Points out of the squad, you are doing it wrong.

If you aren't using an EDI bot, you are doing it wrong.

If you aren't shooting the swarmers on FB Glacier Hazard, you are doing it wrong.

Finally... If you are doing something I don't like, you are doing it wrong.

Well what if you find it particularly fun to compete for score? I dont even mind if someone beats my score because then i know theyre good. Ill be happy to try and step up my game and try to beat them back. Winning on gold is mostly a given, barring some oops grabs or bad match ups. I dont feel like earning the many of millions to earn the last few ultra rares is that fun. However playing different classes to get achievements, using new weapons i dont normally like for achievements and beyond that scoring well is particularly fun. If someone feels they need to rocket spam on wave 11 to make up score, then go for it. Your victory will be hollow, or just as likely your score wont catch up to where it should be. Just play and play hard. Try and have the best score. You will win maps as a matter of course.

So, is there any way to objectively measure skill in this game?

Score. Dps + objective assistance = score.  Only shield boosters, debuffers, and tanks are not measured by this.  There are other factors,  such as bringing someone with stasis to stop phantoms on a team who can't handle them to consider.   But as a basic image of team contribution there is score.  There are ways to inflate it, such as spawn nuking (which still helps), waiting for last shots to get kills (kinda cheap but whatever), and not helping during objectives to kill more enemies (obnoxious).  Oh and i forgot about spamming skills like snap freeze to ensure explosions are yours and not your biotic partners for example (arguably point inflating).

Long story short, immensely high scores don't matter so much because of point inflating techniques.   But not scoring well and not being a support class means you are simply not helping your team.
