same her(ri)e(r X) man. its about having fun and challenging yourself. but i somewhat agree with the op because i used to think that until i got "best of the best"HolyAvenger wrote...
I don't care about credits or maxing my manifest.
What now OP, what now?
Why does anyone here actually care about score? We all know it's all about the credits and maxing out the manifest, NOTHING ELSE.

Score doesn't matter if you're a support class though. The DPS you can give by being a support class usually makes up for it.

If you help on all the objectives, you are doing it wrong.
If you are having fun, you are doing it wrong.
If you aren't paying for PSPs, you are doing it wrong.
If you have the lowest N7 and Challenge Points out of the squad, you are doing it wrong.
If you aren't using an EDI bot, you are doing it wrong.
If you aren't shooting the swarmers on FB Glacier Hazard, you are doing it wrong.
Finally... If you are doing something I don't like, you are doing it wrong.

So, is there any way to objectively measure skill in this game?

Score. Dps + objective assistance = score. Only shield boosters, debuffers, and tanks are not measured by this. There are other factors, such as bringing someone with stasis to stop phantoms on a team who can't handle them to consider. But as a basic image of team contribution there is score. There are ways to inflate it, such as spawn nuking (which still helps), waiting for last shots to get kills (kinda cheap but whatever), and not helping during objectives to kill more enemies (obnoxious). Oh and i forgot about spamming skills like snap freeze to ensure explosions are yours and not your biotic partners for example (arguably point inflating).
Long story short, immensely high scores don't matter so much because of point inflating techniques. But not scoring well and not being a support class means you are simply not helping your team.
