Why does this question come up in every game with gender options? xD

So people can go on about how open minded they are by playing a PC of the opposite gender. It's the same reason why "Will YOU do a same sex romance" threads pop up as well. :whistle:

I usually play a female first (my gender), and usually continue to play as a female. My male warden in DA:O is the only exception because I love the Morrigan romance.

I choose a gender depending on the class.

Warrior = Male
Rouge = Both
Mage = Female

I do the opposite.  I never play male warriors unless they're dwarves (and then I split genders equally)

Not really. Dragon's Dogma, a game with a not exactly huge budget, has a character creator that is so in-depth that you can create children or old people, very muscular or very skinny or very fat, very tall or very short. You name a combination of traits, and DD lets you do it. DA:I really could stand to be DD's level.

Haven't played DD, is that game also cutscene heavy with close character interaction?

No. In fact, it's about as far from that as a modern console game can be. There's probably only 10 true cutscenes in the game, and character interaction is limited to giving gifts to raise NPC affinity and pressing talk to hear a few lines from them.

You seriously need to buy Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen (pretty much a directors cut+game of the year edition combined into one) when it comes out on the 23rd. AMAZING game.

I play both.

I would say I like to play every variation, but I've yet to actually do a warrior playthrough in DA.

I have numerous playthroughs of both genders, though I guiltily admit that my full 'canon' playthrough have both female Hawke and Warden.

Why guiltily? That's hardly "wrong."

Sure I might try it out. But the reason I asked this is because bioware makes cutscene heavy games and THAT is why it would be costly to make a lot of body models, because each model would have to work in cutscenes and would have to have seperate script. Things like a simple handshake or a hug for example - you would have to account for character hight so that characters meet with their eyes and would have to account for how muscular and big the character is to make a hug not clip.

Yes. I even do play male characters more often (although that's probably actually more because my first playthrough in DA:O was male and I kinda fell in love with him/it and ended up replaying him a few times additionally to making new characters and I HATE the voice and walking animation for female characters in DA2 so much that I couldn't finish even one playthrough as a female).
Also tbh I think playing a opposite gendered character allows me to stay more "detached" and thus for a greater variety of characters/personalities.

I do for Dragon Age. I usually play both genders and then pick my favorite as my save import. As an example my favorite Warden is female but my Hawke is male.

I can never seem to finish a MaleShep playthrough though. :?

Yes.

Started ME1 with a male character, but quickly lost interest. Weeks later I decided to give the game another chance and - for whatever reason - started a new game with a female character. Since then I've been hooked on ME and Bioware games in general. Picked up DAO, played female - rocked. Picked up KOTOR, played female - rocked. Picked up Jade Empire, played female - rocked.

Today I'm actually actively on the lookout for good games with female protagonists. Got games like Beyond Good and Evil, The Longest Journey, the new Tomb Raider, etc. I also have a strong tendency to pick female soldiers in games like XCOM.

I guess it's just my thing. For me it always adds something undefinable to the game that makes it just a bit more interesting. Really don't know why. Ask Freud. Maybe because my mother didn't love me enough or maybe because my mother loved me too much.

The funny thing is, when playing as female I always choose the s/s romances, because dating a guy feels wrong somehow. Although I admit, I was tempted with Garrus once, but I couldn't get myself to do it. ^_^

It would really have to depend on the game and how I want to play it. If there is no voiced protagonist, I usually don't mind what gender I play. In DAO I had an equal amount of MWardens and FWardens but my first was a CE FWarden. In ME series I have 50/50 when it comes to gender. For some odd reason I play more MHawkes instead of FHawkes...

Well, because you have the option to have love interests of both genders, it doesn't really make a difference. So I usually play the same gender as myself, and I try to get my character to look like me too. I tried male once...but I didn't notice any difference except that I like the female Hawke's voice better... Probably just because I could feel more like my character, with a feminine voice.

One thing I like about Bioware and some new games in general ex. Skyrim is that they let you choose your sex instead of playing as a fixed gender (usually male) character. I was just curious to see how many people played in a different gender perspective. I will usually play through as a female in my first run through of my game, then switch to a male on a playthrough just to see the variances in gameplay or how characters treat you.

All the time.

Often. I do not consider the character to be myself and I like staring at pretty women without danger of getting arrested for it.
One comic writer recently said he preferred to write female leads because he would rather be obsessed with a woman than a man.

Didn't used to, but I wanted to try the Sith Inquisitor story in TOR and I found the male voice to be completely wrong for the character concepts I had in mind, so I tried a female inquisitor and found the voice to be amazing, that kind of showed me I could get into a female character even if I didn't felt immersed, I have done a bunch of female characters since then.

Dragon's Dogma is one of the most expensive games Capcom has ever made.

I play both more or less equally (I don't try for exact equality, so it isn't exact). It all depends on what character I feel like playing at the time.

As a male I only play as male. Why? Cuz I don't care about seeing things from a different perspective. Tried playing Mass Effect as a chick and could only get half-way through it before quitting out. I really just don't care to play as female.
