Do you play a character of the opposite sex than you?

My boyfriend always plays the female route and both of his Dragon Age characters are female. I think he just likes to be pretty; it's not like the dialogue changes much at all.

For some unknown reason, I skipped the "play as female" thing for NWN, NWN2, and DA:O. (Well, mostly -- I started a female drow cleric for NWN2 but abandoned her because I'd made her chaotic evil, and I simply wasn't able to play as that.) For DA2, I played a femHawke fighter for my second run, who ended up n a rivalry romance with Merrill (that wasn't exactly planned, but just sort of happened -- that particular Hawke despised Anders and sided with the Templars).
That Hawke was interesting in that she ended up with the "tough guy" responses, whereas my male Hawkes were all smart alecks -- again, I didn't plan it that way, it just sort of ended up that way. She was also the only Hawke who ended up with the default "Hawke face" -- I liked that look for her, but didn't care so much for the Richard Chamberlain look for the default male Hawke (not that I have anything against Richard Chamberlain, mind you).

I think a more interesting question may be to ask if people play a different sexual orientation than they are in real life.
Are you female and play a male who is attracted to other females? To other males? Are you a straight female and play a female lesbian? Etc.
Since many view gender as a social construct, I thought sexual preference outside RL norms would be an interesting conversation piece.
I'm a straight male. I've played straight males and females as well as gay males and females. The thing is, I don't really put myself into the protagonist; I just see them as the main character in an interactive story, so there's no real awkwardness about playing a character with tastes that are different from my own.
On one of my Origins playthroughs as a male dwarf commoner, I started flirting with Zevran, having not romanced him in any of my previous playthroughs. Turned out that the romance was fairly well written, so I just rolled with it.

Also, I thought the Zevran/MDwarf romance physics were hilarious.

When I play a female char and there is a romance then it's lesbian. I can't overcome myself to romance a man, because for me that's wrong.

I've also chosen to play as a man once in Fable 2 and twice in Mass Effect. So, it happens sometimes for me, but not very often.I actually feel more motivated to play the opposite gender in Bioware games because of romance options and dialogue differences.
I tend to play straight characters regardless of gender- males who like females and females who like males. I've considered S/S but being straight myself I find it hard to imagine being attracted to the same gender. I do watch some of the romances I don't do as videos and some of them are nice, I just don't swing that way I guess.

usually I can relate well with male S/S romance, but not so much with female S/S...but maybe is because with all my female Elf I Always end up being jumped by Leliana >_> (sometimes I find myself say to the game: this run I'm ethero!!!understood?!?!)
That means I'm very, very, very annoyed with ME3, anche how was treated the romantic life of femshep U_U
but, at lest for now, the only male PC I've created that I really love are my castless Dwarf and my maleshep (but for him is thanks to Claudio Moneta. his voice is great. I love him even if for me, Shepard will Always be Cinzia Massironi.)
never tried malehawke. But I can't even find a justification to play again the game, either. And even If I will play the game again, since the LI are all BI, why should I create a male character?

Also, I have a rule about DA2. Warrior Hawke's are always male, and mage Hawke's are always female. I have good reasons, don't worry.
1.Female Hawke's can't be warriors for me because she's too skinny. This
also makes heavy armor just not look as good on her then it does on male
Hawke. For females to realistically fight like warrior Hawke does, they should have Aveline's build at the least. There should be some decent muscle on you to fight like that, and FemHawke lacks it. If she could be made to have that build, I wouldn't have this rule.
2.Male Hawke can't be mage because he's too muscular for such a physically weak character like a mage is. For 2, the male mage Champion armor changes his arms to be very huge and muscular, and ONLY this armor changes the actual build of the character model. For 3, mage robes simply look awful on the guy, only a woman can pull off mage robes and make them look good.
Rogues are neutral, both the more muscular look of male Hawke and the skinnier look of female Hawke fit a rogue, and rogue armor looks good on both sexes. So both are allowed to be rogues.
