I'd say a good 90% of my playthroughs are as females. I can roleplay a lot easier with them and I tend to like their voices more.
Do you play a character of the opposite sex than you?

I usually play male first, but not in Mass Effect. I never played a male in Mass Effect.

I have three major playthroughs of any game like this:
1. My "canon" playthrough: Male (usually rogue or fighter), who is neutral but friendly. If racial choices are available, Dwarf or other stout, earthy species.
2. My "hero" playthrough: Female (usually rogue or mage), who is uber-good. If races are available, usually Elf or similar species.
3. My "villain" playthrough: Male (usually mage or fighter), who is a total jerk. Always human.

Always play the opposite sex. Female of course.

I play as both genders, almost equally. I always start with a female, but play plenty of male characters, as well.

Yes. I'd rather watch FemHawke's champion ass for 20 hours and the girl on girl is welcome too.

I play as both genders when possible because I enjoy the different perspectives. I do tend to create more female characters overall, however, because I tend to appreciate female voice actors more than I do the males. For example, in ME, ME2, and ME3 so far, I've created four FemSheps and only two MaleSheps. In Dragon Age, it's more equal because of the lack of a voice-acted protagonist. Dragon Age 2 is still sitting on my shelf, unplayed. I'll get there eventually.

Male here. I have done over 20 playthroughs (though the darned forum stopped uploading my characters here a long time ago). Over 90% are female. I just use a male thumbnail, so I don't get creepy private messages.
I have deleted all of my male character save files except one: Dwarf Noble. Dwarf Noble male is the only one to have two children and the only way for the best possible scenerio for the dwarves, so I chose to save that for future imports. My favorite playthroughs are Female Human Mage (so I can get the Amell last name), Female City Elf (overcomes the most oppression) and the Male Dwarf Noble for previous reasons.

Nope. I only play female characters when available. And now I've gotten to the point that I neither play nor purchase RPGs that do not give me the option to play a female PC.

I can only ever play as a girl. Ever. And yeah, I buy games less when I can't play as a girl in them. My boyfriend only plays guys, too, we're both pretty stuck on that.

I'm female but almost always play a male character, mostly because I'm female in real life, and it can be a real drag, being stuck in this body and this gender identity that I didn't particularly ask for. Another reason of course is that BW lets either gender romance a character; that's nice because I find traditional male x female romances boring (with rare exceptions). For that reason, after I'd played through numerous times with my male characters, I will make a female character and almost always romance another female character.
Also, since I am straight, it is just way more fun to create a nice-looking guy in CC then a woman; I get bored trying to create a woman. And I get to look at my cute or hunky guy all game

Usually I only play as a female character when my character is so obscenely evil that I don't want to think of it as myself.

I tend to alternate every time I start a new file on games where you have the option. On my first playthrough I make the protag either, depending on whatever the hell I feel like playing as, then on the next, should there be enough replayability to warrant me playing through again I pick the opposite sex to play as.

My first playthrough will usually be as my own gender, but after that, aesthetic considerations may take priority.
No, not like that you perverts. I mean voice acting. For example, in Dragon Age II, I preferred Nicholas Boulton's voice acting to Jo Wyatt's.But then, when it came to Mass Effect, I vastly preferred Jennifer Hale to Mark Meer. It's a fairly minor thing I know, I'd be perfectly happy with an Origin style dialogue system and no voice acting for the main character at all. But for some reason, certain voices really bug me.

Depends on the game and it depends on the character.

Only as a temp diversion. I usually only get them a level or two in what ever game it happens to be.

Typically at least once, if the game allows me to. DA2 was the exception, in that I only ever played the opposite sex PC.

In skyrim i have only made one male character, who i quickly lost interest in. So yes i play all my games, or most of them as a Female Character, I've thought about it in DND but there so far i have a 100% male character thing going. the last game i played as a guy was probably DA 2. (and ME 3 since my original shepard was a guy) And honestly i'm not sure why i did that one as a guy. all my MMO Characters are Female. This wasn't always the case though i didn't start doing this until ME 1. The game showed me playing as a Girl in games can be equally fun and there was something about femshep that was particularly inspiring to me.
After that though i think i've been alot more open to things than i would've been if i hadn't tried it the once.

Yeah i tend to play as the opposing gender, which is female. In most games i will end up playing as my own gender so i kinda pick female just for diversity in my gaming.
