Hello everyone.

I recently read something about upgrading your gear to higher levels by selling it or something, i would quite like to do this for my latest playthrough as i got a couple of things way too early,

Would someone mind explaining it step by step please? and does it work for weapons as well as armor?

Thanks!

It works for both weapons and armour - but not on everything you pick up. What it works on is equipment that scales. If you do Warden's Keep at level 8 for instance, you'll probably get veridium warden commander's armor, if you do it at level 14 it may be silverite. In other words, it's an item that comes with various levels depending on your level when you acquire it.

So, if you got the veridium armour (as an example), when your character reaches higher levels they can sell it to a merchant - and then buy it back. It will now have been upgraded to match your level. You will lose money because you have to sell at a loss and buy back at full price, but your equipment is now upgraded and more powerful.

Only works for console versions, not enabled for PC. You'll need to try what Susan is describing.

What I reccommend doing is making a manual save file, selling the item(s) in question, quicksave, then quickload, then talk to the merchant again. That way you don't have to zone or whatever. The reason it's important to have a save file though, often times the upgrade will increase it's ability requirements or make it retardedly expensive. If you don't have the ability to revert back, you run the risk of screwing yourself out of the item in question.

As outlaworacle said make a save file before you do this, because nothing is worse than having gear you counted on and not be able to re-equip it after you upgraded it. For the armors i think the max out strength is 42 so if you plan this try and have enough strength in already or enough points to increase your strength. Happened to moe today the first time ever i upgraded the WC armor and had a strength requirement of 42 when i only had 38, but a quick run off to the Dalish and 10 bundles of elf root to turn in and i had the armor back on whew. The save file prevents this from being an issue and i should have taken thier advice, will remember that in the future or have the reqs met before i try the upgrade.
