There are a few rumors about the next Mass Effect title that might illuminate the game some, however. Game Front commenter Sachel, who claims to be a BioWare insider, has said the next game will be called Mass Effect: Contact and that it will be a first-person shooter. He also has said that the game will be a prequel, taking place during the “First Contact War” — the conflict between humans and turians when humanity first discovered
the Charon Mass Relay.

If it's not true, it would still be a good plot for the film.

Well, if it is a first person shooter that leaves me out.

And I don't think the First Contact War is a good era for a game. We all know what happens it wouldn't be any fun. Now a movie about the First Contact War, that I would sign up for.

obviously not true.

say what you will about Bioware, or how you think they dealt with Mass Effect 3, but they are smarter then to turn a franchise that has always been an RPG/TPS hybrid into an FPS. besides, have you ever seen Bioware make an FPS before? didn't think so..

besides, if i remember the FCW didn't last all that long.

Either way, its obviously just someone trying to tick people off... surprisingly common act on the in the recent years...

Ugh.... I really hope that this is not true, it is the nightmare I have been suffering from for some time. Prequel and a pure FPS. If true, then I'm getting off the Mass Effect train. I will hold my judgment till we have some more concrete data.

Why continue to make epic action-RPGs when you can make another generic FPS with Mass Effect textures?

Let's all pray to Athane that this is not true.

**** no, a prequel? About a subject that was already covered in a comic? And that's a complete shift from third to first person?

No. Absolutely not. 0/10 would not play.

Please no...i hope this is a joke

If Mass Effect becomes an FPS, that would be a major break in immersion. Plus, wasn't a large majority of the feedback (IGN poll, casey hudsons twitter) calling for a sequel?

like I said, obviously not true...

How ever, my clairvoyance is telling me this thread is going to become and argument and flame fest, and will then be locked...

Really, what difference would it make if they went full-FPS now? They could still have dialogue and characters, you know.

I wouldn't be so sure. This Casey Hudson comment suggests it won't be a RPG/TPS like ME1-3:

"We want to be able to give fans an opportunity to get back into the world with these things you’ve come to know and love about the Mass Effect experience but start something fresh and new — a new way for you
to explore the whole universe in Mass Effect.”

The whole universe in Mass Effect goes beyond a very short 'war' and 500 casualties.

Sure. Cthulu, Ba'al and Ahura Mazda are also acceptable.

Personal preference. I hate not being able to see the character. Always did. It's just not my thing.

I'm hoping he means a remake of Burger Time!: Krogan Edition. Hungry Krogans are mobbing your burger stand and you gotta get those orders out before Grunt gets hungry enough to eat you. If you beat nightmare mode, you get rewarded with a framed picture of Starbrat behind your counter. Imagine the weapon mods for ketchup dispensers! Can't wait!!!

Please, Vishnu, no.

Oh boy, a story I already know the ending to and can't make any decisions about because the events already happened. Can I make Ashley's grandfather not surrender Shanxi? What's that, no, because it already happened? How fun. What's that, yes I can, well that's so messed up I can't even put it into words.

Can't wait to see how badly they ruin Anderson and TIM.

I will say this seems like the only logical place to go for them, so wouldn't suprise me if the rumor is true (don't expect an FPS though)
No Shepard, check.
Human characters, check.
Side steps the issues of the craptastic end of the last one, check.
Add some retcons for why the guns don't cool down on their own and call it a day.

Any Mass Effect FPS is an auto-buy for me.

If this is true, I look forward to consuming some delicious tears and rage.

There is nothing in that OP that sounds remotely interesting to me.

They should just make N7 Code of Honor: Medal of Duty for max mainstream appeal.

Hmmm, I'm throwing credits at the screen yet nothing appears to be happening.

If Bioware produced that game I would definitely enjoy the tears that would follow.

no...

in fact... hell no.

turning a TPS into an FPS? that would be like turning Half Life into a TPS. just... blasphemy.

it would not surprise me though. EA tends to kill anything they touch, and this would simply finish off the franchise.
