Definitely not going to be the first contact war.

Alternate timeline is the most likely route....

And I'll bet my left nut its not an FPS....where did you hear this rumor? Do you have a source? Otherwise it seems very much like a troll thread

The alternate timeline route could be seen as a reboot of the franchise I guess. But it would also be a sour reminder that the current endings messed up the franchise to the point that they had to start over and reboot it.

it has nothing to do with the ME3 endings. Bioware only ever promised that choices would be carried over for a trilogy of games. Not to mention carrying the choices over to an entirely new generation of consoles could prove pretty damn difficult, if not impossible.

Many universes do it. Just look at Star Trek. The next game could be ME's version of "The Next Generation". It's focus could and most likely will be entirely different from the Shepard Trilogy.

Here's where it's wrong:
1) Devs already straight up said it is neither a prequel, sequel, or during to ME; completely something askew to what we've experienced.
2) They also said that the new game will maintain what we have been playing the last 5-7 years; no MMO officially, and more than likely, no FPS.

Just a fan writing theories of what he wants.

So if it isn't a sequel (set in the future) or a prequel (set in the past), or a midquel (set at or around the present), then what could it possibly be besides a reboot?

Different galaxy: it's the only way to not be considered one of those three.

I know I'm late this thread, but that rumor sounds horrible. I think reading a Codex entry and looking at one of the vaults in the Citadel Archive is about enough of the First Contact War for me. Besides, good luck motivating enough of the fan base to care about the First Contact War when they know how everything is going to end (I know some of you guys love the idea, but I have a hard time believing BW will sell it as much as a sequel or something totally askew to what we've experienced).

I'm not talking about whether or not your choices carries over. I was quite clear that ME3 was the last game for Shepard regardless of ending. And frankly I hope they stop with that praxis in future games since it clearly only hampers the storytelling.
I'm talking about creating an ending that ruins the in-game universe to the point where you simply cannot continue on the same timeline. You have to either resort to an alternate timelines, wich is kind of a cop-out, or create prequels that only a minority wants.
