its a tall order. but yeah its alright if they gave the option to write the story of my character. in ME trilogy you were like writing the story of the whole universe. stark contrast would be interesting.

your decisions would like influence characters missions and the story of the character but not the story of the verse.

but then gain yeah fighting the turians would be intersting!

give it a chance maybe they can pull this off!

I'd wash my hands of the series if that is the case

Well that would certainly take the coffin that is already nailed in and throw it in the ocean with an Anvil on top. I am sick and tired of FPS. I always hated FPS until I realized a lot of my games are played from First Person View. I hate this generation of gaming sometimes.

The whole universe in Mass Effect goes beyond a very short 'war' and 500 casualties.

that i think is the human casualties. but their are alot of unexplored arcs in that war.

specially the story of first space flight and exploration which really drew me to Masseffect verse.

a lot of interesting characters to expand like Jack Harper, Admiral Kastanie Drescher and young Anderson.

but yeah love to see that mission Zaeed made on that turian cruiser.

Only if we get to play as Anderson.

I actually wouldn't mind the shooter part, but it has to be third person. Otherwise it would feel too much as just another shooter in space. I also think the First Contact War is the most boring of all the major wars mentioned in the series thus far, but a "what if?" scenario could work. What if it came to full-scale war? The turian campaign (there has to be a turian campaign) could end with the turians conquering earth, while we can finally visit Palaven in the human campaign. I think that could be interesting. Nothing earthshaking, but just a new and fun game in the franchise.

id imagine it would be like battle field 4, talking all military in the coms; "oscar mike" "whats your 20" "get that 50"
like real soldiers fighting a war!

epic battle scene's fighting turians street to street and city to city on shanxi.

i mean the battle title its self is already awesome Liberating the "Occupation of Shanxi"...

id imagine epic ship to ship battles. outnumbered and outgunned humans bring down a turian fleet.

If that is true... yep, I'm done with ME. As others have said, I hate games where I can't see my character. Just his/her hand and a weapon. I don't want that in my ME. As silly as Shep looks when he/she's running, I'll take that over a bouncing screen any day.

I also don't want this to have anything to do with the ME universe as we already know it. A prequel is redundant. We know what happened and we know what's going to happen. Reapers.

I'm only up for a sequel if it doesn't co-star all the races we already know. If I wanted that, I'll play the trilogy again. Give us something new set in a far off galaxy, maybe where people have just discovered relay technology. Or better yet, an entire galaxy where it doesn't exist yet. As much as I love the Mass Effect universe, let's have something new. Not pump out clone after clone every two years.

No.

I got it, what if the next game let's us play as politicians and introduces us to the Alliance parliament? That'd be awesome since we know little about them.

I think its still TPS and has story writing the characters story.

and hell  lot epic battles and alot ofblowing up buildings/cover

-starting to piece things together knowthing that new "the frosbite engine" excels at making destructibles. to utilize this they need alot of blowing up!

Pinnacle Station, the FPS?

I'd like to say no way that would happen, but at this point anything's possible...

hell no.

if they turn ME into a full on FPS...I'm done with it.

if they were to do that..you know it's only to try (and fail, once again like Battlefield) to compete with CoD

No.

see, you don't want another ME game, you want a new IP.

If you take out the various races, locations, and political factions we know, and put it in another Galaxy, you dont have a Mass Effect game, you have another Generic Sci-fi IP

Really, what difference would it make if they went full-FPS now? They could still have dialogue and characters, you know.

I also prefer third person though first person is alright ( I do love Borderlands and Battlefield).  However, just because a game uses first person and you shoot things, that does not mean it will be a contemporary to Battlefield.

Still, I too would prefer the next ME game remain third person.

Hm, I am not thrilled but also, I don't quite agree with all the negative reactions here.
First of all, it's just a rumor so there's no need for panic. Even if it were not, there is till no need to panic.
First person is not really a problem as far as I am concerned. Deus Ex was 1st person and was a brilliant shooter/RPG mixture. If it were a straight up shooter, that would certainly be disappointing but I don't think that'll be the case. Also, say about ME3 what you will, the gameplay was excellent, IMO so I am not too worried about that.
In terms of setting and story. I believe the first contact war has potential. It all depends on what kind of story you want to tell. Personally, I'd love it if they focused on a more personal story of smaller scope (i.e. not another trilogy but a single game this time). I think after the whole reapers story is now finished, you need some contrast, you can't just launch straight into the next galactic threat. The FCW provides a good setting for something like that, I think.
I am most worried about more consistency screw-ups. Evolution, which played druing the first contact war was really bad with this and it seems that neither BW nor the writers care about consistancy within the ME universe (why they don't is beyond me, it's one of my major gripes with ME at the moment).
Now I don't know if it's the fault of article (probably is) but there already the first big mistake in there.

He also has said that the game will be a prequel, taking place during the “First Contact War” — the conflict between humans and turians when humanity first discovered the Charon Mass Relay.

No, the war began when Humanity discovered and activated relay 314. Humanity already had a fair sphere of influence when the war started. Arcturus station was already built (at least partially). There were colonies (Shanxi anyone). As Is aid, this is surely just the article, getting it wrong, but what I am worried about is smaller things. With al the established lore, this setting has a lot of tripwires if you are not extremely careful with the story and the characters and BW's track record in that area is not exactly spotless.

Anyway, we'll see what comes of this. Maybe it's all wrong anyway but if they do make a game during the first contact war, I sure hope they get things right.

I didn't like the erosion of the RPG elements in ME's sequels, but the characters kept me coming back... I just couldn't do it if its reduced to FPS.

I'm sure some will love it, but I hope this is not something that is actualy in the works. To each his own though.

There was a thread in the Dragon Age forum a while back, I think (It might have been a twitter conversation) where someone was asking if they would consider the possibility of a first-person game. One of the developers came in and pretty much said "No, we aren't doing that." Pretty firmly, if I remember correctly. He said that party mechanics simply don't work very well in first-person games.

Sounds like BS to me.

Last I heard Casey mentioned something about you being a detective, not it being an FPS.

Sounds like a troll trying (and succeeding) to get a rise out of Bioware fans.
