Anyone else hope this rumor about the next Mass Effect is true?

I doubt BioWare is this out-of-touch with both those who enjoyed and disliked ME3, though.

Personally, if I want to play a first-person "shooter" with spellcasting, I'll play Bioshock or Dishonored. I'm simply not much of a FPS person unless the atmosphere or gameplay style are unique, so that'll overwhelmingly ensure that I'll be sitting the next one out.

This, off topic I was considering getting bioshock infinite should I play 1 and 2 first though?

They aren't hugely necessary to the BS:I story, but they're good enough that you should get them anyway.Ecrulis wrote...

Basically. And while I wasn't too thrilled with Bioshock 2's story or new gameplay execution, it's inexpensive and buying it means you can also download and play the superior side-story DLC, Minerva's Den. The combo of the two shouldn't cost more than $20, and that's a pretty worthwhile experience for the money.

1.Well, it may not have much "spellcasting". I'm not sure about tech abilities, but I don't think human biotics exist at that point.
2.They said it's going to be a "completely new Mass Effect". So maybe they will try to pull in new fans in addition to fans like me who mostly enjoy the action. Multiplayer focuses on the action, and it was a success. I could certainly see them going in that direction.

Think about it logically for a second. What possible annoucement for Mass Effect 4 would guarantee the most amount of fan rage? That it wasn't an RPG and was going to be a first person shooter like Call of Duty.

How is it a middle finger? Ever played Half Life 2? Or Deus Ex? Or Borderlands? What the hell are you people on about?OniTYME wrote...
FPS is a giant middle finger. If true, ME is FUBAR.

People here believe that Bioware has even thought of what they want to do with ME?

If anything this seems like more of a fan idea than the actual BioWare idea, I certainly don't buy it until I see an announcement. At anyrate, on the off chance that this is actually legit, I'm not really interested in a first person shooter unless it has a proper (at least 25 hours long and no freaking corridor shooting all the time) campaign and it has a good story - see Half Life on how to make a proper shooter - none of that military fps bull..... either.

Those are true shooters alright and the only ones I like. The whole annual COD and bi annual BF releases dragged the entire genre down to the point where a lot of gamers forgot what a 'true' fps is supposed to be like.

So.... what's the problem then? How about you wait for some actual footage before dismissing the entire thing because you "don't like FPSs." Which you clearly do.Robhuzz wrote...

Also, Black Ops 2 actually did a great job with the whole choice thing.

With the ME3 endings a sequel is impossible unless they canonize an ending, which they probably won't do, so I don't see why this prequel thing comes as a surprise.
...
Not sure a prequel is really possible if they want humans in it. There isn't that much going on for mankind in terms of big story moments. First Contact War wasn't really that big. At least the Codex in ME1 mentioned casualties in the low 1000s. When I checked Shepard had 2000 kills after ME3 himself (some achievement said it).
Other events (Batarian slavers) were also very localized. While the Mass Effect universe offers great story potential at or after the trilogy for humans, it would have problems in that timeframe between finding the Charon relay and human Citadel relations.
Imo they would need to go after the trilogy to keep their options open because I don't think BW is so bold to make a non human game where you can only play Asari, Salarian, Turian,... though I would be intrigued.

As for prequel or sequel, it depends how good the story is. It would take A LOT to for the next ME game to suck me back into the MEU

That is true. Though I suppose they can always add a whole bunch of details to make the entire thing longer. Similar to how the Hobbit it turning one relatively small book into 3 seperate movies. I'm sure if they wanted to cover the first contact war, they'd find a way to do it, though I think it'd make a way better movie than game.

I don't like most modern FPS - old ones or particularly good ones like DXHR I do like - but that's beside the point. I didn't dismiss the entire thing at all because I didn't like it. I dismissed it because I doubt bioware is going this route. And even if they are they wouldn't let this info come out already. I dismiss rumors until they're officially confirmed. Or until Priestly actively denies them.
